New Yamaha 4 stroke-anybody bought one yet?

Read all the primiliary reports on this engine and just wondering if anybody had one yet and if so could they share their thoughts on just what is does or does not do? And maybe the price range. If it gives anywhere near the performance and reliability of my 200 HPDI, then I think its my next motor.

The prices have I have been hearing are just to high for me. Somewhere in the range of 50% more then comparable two stroke. I don't see how you can save that kind of money over the life of the engine, but there are other reasons to buy I guess. Another thing to keep in mind is that history has shown that "next-gen" engines have always had a few things to work out in the first couple years of there existence.

btw... I heard 19-22k range, but that is just "hear-say"

All I've read or told is it had gone into production in October and most if not all the Boat Manufactures probably won't receive them until January of 2010. Price wise, I imagine it would be alittle higher than the previous price....LOL, someone has to pay for the R&D. Seems everything is good tho...

Time will tell tho. Like too see the Warrantee on these new babies also.

Motor is not to the boat mfg's yet. Sounds like January. Price is just a little more than the other 2 stroke DFI's, which Yamaha is no longer making and has been illegal in CA the last few years. Rick G.

I'm with you Ray, I'm older too and have no need to go fast. I would think the price would be a little higher to start, like the first lap tops, computers etc. then you would think it would settle out somewhat lower. So guess we wait a bit and see what happens. Thanks for imput.

Off of the Yamaha boards on BBC...

"Got some of the prices/specs from Yamaha today. They weigh 505 lbs. HPDI's were 539 lbs. VF200LA is $19,370. VF225LA is $20,620. VF250LA is $21,870." ...likely just MSRP and we know there is a lot of room to work with, but I wouldnt expect it to be equivilant in price to existing 2 strokes

Boy that makes for some good reading. It just amazing how more up on things the midwest and the east is on things like this. But I guess its because everything really starts there. As for the 13,600 figure I guess you would have to ad guages, prop, shipping, taxes maybe and install which would bump it up there. I think they said the controls would interchange. But that sound better than starting at 18 or 19 and adding all that stuff.

That may become my new motor, but I want to see it out for at least 2 years to find out how reliable it is. There is a lot of good info on the other board.

Just a little up date on this. I called Eds Marine in Virginia this morning to find out more about what I already have that would be compatable with this new motor. So if your running the HPDI from 2001 on, the controls and guages all work. Marc the guy I talked to said some of the early tachs might have to be adjusted. You can't buy an engine directly from Eds unless your a dealer or he installs it and he doesn't plan on stocking these motors which will first be available Jan 10.

Just ordered a 225 for a customer on a new Ranger 208 should be in around end of Jan. Priced about $1500.00 more than the HPDI. Let you know more about it when we get it and run it.
