Night fishing and line selection?
When fishing at night does fluorocarbon light up under the black light. Also, what is everyone's favorite night time fishing line.
Thanks,
Thanks,

the flouros i've tried do not light up under my black light.. i use either the stren blue flourescent but mainly i use the flame green flourescent fireline.. but with the fireline i go up to 20 lb since its invisable under the water at night. i went with a guide at night on clear lake and he uses 30lb fireline ..

Re: Night fishing and line selection?
When I night fish I use Yozuri line in the smoke color it lights up with a black light and is a very good line
Fluorescent line
Fluorocarbon does not fluoresce, it tough to find a good line that does. Stren is the default, but its just not tough enough is there are rocks around. P-line sells a nice, tough fluorescent line, but it has lots of memory so you may only get one night out of it. Try the Trilene Sensation Photochromic, it fluoresces plus you can fish it during the day. They used to make a straight Photochromic, but now I believe its marketed under Trilene Sensation in the Photochromic color.
Same as the daytime..
There is some good advice here already if you are power fishing..If you are fishing finesse and deep, stick to the light stuff and you will get more bites under tough conditions..The great part of night fishing is your sense of feel..Clear Lake is not the motherlode..I have won on Melones, Pedro and Amador going light and have caught a lot of big ones on four inch worms..Check the night fishing article in Bass West..I prefer to fish in the black with just my bow light on (to keep from getting run over) when fishing deep structure..Johnny C

good line for night fishing
Cuda Platinum Clear Gray is very abration resistant, soft, very strong and florocarbon coated so it is virtually invisable in the daytime yet glows quite well in a black light for night fishing

Re: Night fishing and line selection?
After breaking off so many big bass on flourescent mono line, I have found the answer in Berkley "flame green" fireline. 20 lb test will work fine, but why not use 30 - which I do! I have been broken off once in rocks in the past 4 years - and that was last week. I have so much confidence in the line that I often don't retie for a whole trip. If I am sticking big 'uns, I will retie. My clients used Trilene 12 to 17 lb test XL for their spinning reels. Make sure you get flourescent, not clear. Rick is right about Cuda - it seems to work well in a black light also. Just for info - you can fish at night without a black light as long as you can drag your bait along the bottom and feel it. But you are dead in the water if you are fishing a vertical wall or any steep drop without a black light. If your line is in freefall and you can't see it, you don't have a clue what is going on. Example - I was fishing Henderson Point at Clear Lake on a 25 foot drop. Fishing was very slow. I cast my jig towards the rocks and fed line out as the jig fell. It went down about 15 feet and stopped. My line jumped a foot (no kiddin") and it set the hook. She was a 9 1/4 lb lesson I will never forget. Without my blacklight, it would have been just another slow night. I would have just kept feeding my line out into the night air.

I Just...
Use P-Line Orignal ( PF ) 15 to 20 lb. I run Boat lights on and it does not hurt a thing. I can see my line using the boat lights fine. Try to keep it simple.

Just fish with no light and use whatever line you already use. If you have to fish with your nav lights on for saftey, by all means do it but if you don't have to have a light, why bother to have it? Fishing at night with no lights will teach you a lot about your other senses

Hey Swimbait..
I leave my lights on to keep my eye on Joe...Actually when you are one of the only boats fishing offshore you need them so you don't get run over...And where is fish lake where Steve is catching all those toads????...Let me at them..sounds like fun

Hey Johnny....
.... your lake is next, lol! Maybe ill see you out there one of these nights, but I dont use lights at night (only use lights when running, but when fishing I ALWAYS have a spotlight handy to hit a boat that is coming my way) so I may be hard to find.
