I read that Peter T won the Memorial at Oneida and Onondaga on the weekend fishing a "Carolina Rig" but the set up sounds more like a split shot rig to me. He had a 1/8th ounce sinker a foot or so ahead of a Zoom fluke.
None of the reports talk about how Peter T fished or retrieved the rig, however, other than one quote which implied he retrieved it slowly.
I've never tried either rig and would appreciate some guidance on how to retrieve it. Do you think he swam it back to the boat? Jerked it? Or simply dragged it back slowly????
Appreciate any hints.
Thanks

well....I just caught a 9 using a tru tungsten 1/2 oz weight along with the bead they make and the rubber keeper for the weight ( very important ) The keeper will keep your weight and clacker in proximity during the cast alowing you to fish it on the sink and drag and shake it back....It's just a big split shot with a swivel
That rig you discribe is not what I would term a carolina rig but if it has all the ingredients than it was one by technocality
However what I was using sounds more like the right stuff. When the fish want it swiming along just off the bottom like they did for me the other night you can do no wrong dragging a worm in some fashion. Some days it's dead stick others moving along with a swim tail. Worms work 365 But usually it's slow and methodical. With the advent of the dropshot you almost don't need to carolina ....Yeah when pigs fly. The best part is the heafty line you can use...Trust me you'll catch fish if you fish fish basic color worms and in a comfort zone 10-25 feet....and a weight that is useful in really feeling where you are and what your doing.

Kelly,
What weight and type of line do you use on that rig?

When I use a split shot or carolina rig I slowly move the rig with the rod and then wind up the slack line. Give a little shake on occassion like a drop shot rig.
