Save-A-Warrior had a bass tournament at Clear Lake on April 1st, 2023. Nathan Phillips and Ty Manterola from the Simpson College team won with a massive bag that weighed 32.06 pounds. Clear Lake has once again proven that she is one of the best fisheries in our country. The Simpson team focused on areas where the fish were just starting to move up. They used reaction baits in areas where no one was fishing to catch their fish. Their pattern worked on specific structures and water depth throughout the lake.

“We noticed that most of the other competitors were all fishing the same schools of fish, so we focused on areas that no one was fishing.” “We didn’t want to play bumper boats.”

During practice they noticed that the fish were pale in color and knew that the fish were just moving up. The Simpson team were tight lipped on details since they are going to fish more tournaments at Clear Lake in the near future.

Nathan Phillips, a senior in college, plans to guide at our lakes here in California once he graduates from college. His focus is to fish as many of the pro-am circuits as possible. Phillips showed his appreciation to Dave Burruss at Clear Lake Outdoors in Clear Lake for all his support the last few years.

Ty Manterola has a hay hauling business and plans to fish local pro-am and team circuits. Once he graduates from college in two years, he plans to pursue a fishing career. Manterola thanked his family for all their support and a special thanks to Clear Lake Outdoors for all the support.
