Pinpoint Sonar???

Post by snapitoff2002 »

Well... I was in dire need of a trolling motor, and Scott D. from the forum hooked me up. He also included a couple of graphs.. (pinpoint tr320's) that I am going to mount up... I was trying to find out how good the GPS upgrade was, but I can't find squat about pinpoint anywhere, and am assuming they are obsolete... anyone have the GPS, or have any experience with Pinpoint?

I wouldn't say they are obsolete exactly just not as popular. I have 2 of them on my boat which at one point was owned by Dave Rush. He chose them in 2004 for the boat. They are not color but are very powerful at 4000 W peak to peak. One of mine is not functional right now but I'm hoping to get that fixed soon. I also have the GPS upgrade. It has a ton more lakes than the Garmin I had on my previous boat. The GPS unit uses a a 64K memory chip so no downloading from the computer. With one inexpensive cable you can link 2 units and see the GPS or either transducer on either screen or split the screen and see 2 things at once. With my front unit I have been able to follow my dropshot weight from the surface down to the bottom and then watch it bounce around. They probably wouldn't be my first pick for electronics but if you get them I don't think you'll be disappointed. They are still sold by Cabela's just have to look it up on-line. There is a service facility that can provide manuals and service. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Well.. I was a little disappointed to find out that they are out of business, but I did get the number of the people that are taking care of repairs. I believe I have all of the wires that hook them in sync, but I don't have the gps with it.... I would like to get the gps, but what I am really looking for is a in hull transducer for the rear console graph.... Hard to believe that they went out of business, but oh well.. can't afford the 111c, or the 997 hummingbird... lol.

One other thing... not sure if anyone has bought an adapter and used the pinpoint ready transducer on the trolling motor, and linked it to a Lowrance... Hmm... questions......

I run the full pinpoint system. Trolling Motor, front and cockpit sonars and never have had problems. Have not upgraded to GPS. I like my system and am disappointed that Motorguide bought them out and didn't do much with the technology. Do a web search as there are still parts available and service locations.

I gotta say I love my system! I have the the 7520 set up on the "In sync" system and the internal trolling motor transducer. I did have a problem with one of my units but I just got another off eBay last night dirt cheap so I can use it while my other one is getting repaired then when it gets back I will have a spare! I have heard gREAT things about the 320 allthough it is $500.00 for each unit plus I believe like $300.00 for the GPS add-on (per unit).

Woo hoo.. another question then!!!

I just hooked them up to power, and they look great.. I have the in sync wires, without the gps, but I still don't have the IN-HULL transducer to hook up...... do you run the in hull, or on the hull? I need to order that part. I thought if you ran the gps upgrade on one, and had the in-sync system, that it would work for both graphs.

Hey,

You are correct, you only need one GPS. As long as the two units are In-Sync you can see the GPS from bow or console. That's how mine is set up. I have an extra thru-hull transducer. It just came out of my boat 'cause I installed a new one. Thought that was the problem but it turns out it was something else so now I have one for sale. Do you think $50 shipped is reasonable? Where are you located?

I use a thru hull and then the in trolling motor transducer. The thru hull would be the optimum. My system is synced. Let me know how you like the GPS. I am still considering it.
