27 pitch Tempest Prop
Is there anyone in Tracy or the surrounding area that has a Tempest 27 pitch prop for a merc they would be willing to let me put on my boat for a quick run to see how it works? I think i might be able to go up one pitch from the 26 i'm running right now but hate to go spend $400 and have it not work. Thanks

What model and motor do you have on what model Triton. I think I can answer some of your questions. PM me if you would like.

Hey Kent,
I've got a 05 TR196 with a 200 Opti on it. I"m running consistant 68mph GPS at 5700 RPM's. Good conditions and it will run about 71 but i'm all over the over-rev buzzer. I"ve talked with a few guys who are running this setup with a Tempest 27 and getting about 74 out of it. i just wanted to give a 27 a run and see how it performs.

you may get the performance you are looking for by coming down just a bit on your jack plate. The RPM's sound a little high for the speed (68). Your motor will hit the rev limiter at 5750. You may be able to turn a 27 but I would think that with a load you would have a hole shot issue with that prop and you would lower your RPM's too much I think. Sounds like maybe having Phil or Gary at Tru-Pitch take a couple hundred rpm's out of the 26' might also help.
I have ran the 27's quite a bit but they are not very good for hole shot and in rough water they were a real pain. Sounds like you may be pretty close on the set-up you have. 74 out of 196 with a 200 is a little optimistic.
good luck

Brent,
I'm also running a 2006 196/200 opti. This rig will cook any Ranger out there. I'm running the 27p Tempest with three large plugs and love it. I believe this is the right prop for light to semi-light loads. If you are the type that likes to have all the tackle you own on board, or like to take turns on the river really fast, go with a 4 blade 26p Trophy. Great Prop. My #1 choice is the 27p Tempest, I've seen 75.6 gps with a light load and around 72.0 gps running back to weigh ins. You won't be disappointed with the Tempest...

I am sorry , don't take it wrong, but I have to ask........Why would anyone in their right mind want to go 70 mph in the delta ?? Is it not getting a little to dangerous now-a-days ??
Re: 27 pitch Tempest Prop
smoke any ranger ? 521 w/ 250 xs I'd you for pinks but you better get a little faster .77.1 gps lite load delta.

Good job ed, the only true numbers I'm concerned about are the lbs. and ozs. at the end of the day! I'm down to fish for pink slips though.
