Pitching Tules?
Pitching Tules?
When you guys are pitching plastics around that are Texas Rigged, what size weight do you usually use? I know it varies on delta but I mostly fish lakes. Thanks
Re: Pitching Tules?
I will pitch from 1/8oz - 2oz. Depending on three key factors, fish activity and thickness of cover and bait style. My two biggest bass a12.6 and a 10 came on flipping a brushhog with a 1/8th oz tungsten.
For lakes, my starting point would be 3/8ths and i would go up or down from there to see how it goes through the cover and how fast the fish want it. Bait matters because a sweet beaver doesnt require speed to initiate the action, but a bait like a falppin hog has a lot more action on the heavier weight.
The rule of thumb that Cooch would teach is the lightest weight you can get away with. in the spring i may be at 1/4oz and do the shaky shaky to send it between the tulles vs 1/2oz in the summer when there is thicker vegetation

Re: Pitching Tules?
I agree 100% for plastics. Jig is different
With those plastics I want to put emphasis on dead sticking
Let that plastic lay still on the bottom each cast for seconds. 5-10 seconds
Do that at some point on each presentation either at the beginning middle or end.
But at some point preset it as if it’s not attached to your line.
I like to dip my rod down pointing at the water to create a small amount of slack to let it sit still
