Place for my young boys to fish from the bank
I am trying to find a good place for my 2 young boys (7 and 3) to fish from the bank. Somewhere they can catch plenty of bluegills with maybe the occasional bass or crappie. I tried to think of some places on the Delta but all those levees with rock just aren't suitable shore lines for these two. They have to be able to move around a little bit and it not be dangerous. I was trying to think of some little ponds or lakes in the greater Sacramento area but it's been so long since I fished anywhere other than the Delta on a boat that i'm having a hard time thinking of anywhere. I just want to find a place to get my two boy's hooked on fishing where the shore line isn't dangerous and there are actually fish that will keep there bobbers bobbing. Any feedback or advice is much appreciated.

Brannon Island State Park? The swimming area looks like it should hold some fish and no boats are allowed in there.

Don't know if they still do it, but Sugar Barge use to let you fish off thier dock. I think they charged you a dollar to get the key. Lots of bluegill under those docks....

sacramento has a few decent ponds for bass and bluegills etc...try mather lake its off by sunrise blvd and grant line in that area..search it online..theres also a pond by laguna a little east of hwy 99...also try the creek by laguna and bond rd..it has some nice bass in there...my buddy got a 4# there today and has plenty of bluegills...the better area u have to go through some residential home to get to...theres also elk grove pond right off of hwy 99..its a pretty big park with a decent size pond...easy way is to google map the area and look for ponds/creeks...let me know if u have questions..

There is a nice pond with a dock over at Folsom high school behind the football feild that has some decent fishing and its definantly a great safe place for the kids and totally legal to fish there. Good luck and tight lines!!
