Tunnel To Take Delta Water To SoCal Nearly Ready
SAN BERNARDINO (AP) ― A massive mechanical mole that has spent the last five years burrowing under the San Bernardino Mountains is expected to surface Wednesday, marking a major step in completing a 44-mile water line that will eventually serve thirsty Southern Californians.
The Inland Feeder is expected to pipe water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta into the Diamond Valley Lake reservoir in Riverside County by 2010. The water will be distributed from northern Los Angeles County to Mexican.
Roy Wolfe, who oversaw the project for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, is hopeful the pipeline will eventually supply 1000 cubic feet of water per second -- enough to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool in less than 30 seconds.
"This has been an incredible journey, an 11-year, $1.2 billion project," said Wolfe, manager of corporate resources for the utility.
The Inland Feeder consists of 26 miles of buried pipeline and three tunnels spanning 18 miles. The machines used to dig the tunnels are longer than a football field and can bore through anywhere from 10-to-80 feet per day. The tunnel to be completed Wednesday is 4 miles long.
More water needed to fill Olympic-sized swimming pools in SoCal.

AND YOU THINK THIS IS GOOD, THINK AGAINE they are already stealling northern cal waters enough they dump east park stony groge and black butte all water our farmers need IT IS TIME TOO STOP THE THIEVES NOW LET SOUTHERN CAL BUILD THERE OWN DAMS
Re: Plans for more water to go south
The bulk of our water exports (is 80% correct?) goes to large Central CA ag operations. They get cheap/subsidized water for water intensive crops like cotton that are then exported overseas--the water aint used by mom n' pop farms that "feed our nation" as they like to have folks believe...
Re: Plans for more water to go south
Has anybody out there heard of this project before?? I know I hadn't.The timing of this with the emergence of the peripheral canal issue again can't bode well for the future of the delta.Get ready for leopard shark fishin' in franks tract!!!!!

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

One word: DESALINATION.
That should be the future but unfortunately, the current government can't see or lead that far (out).
What a waste....
Get ready to take salt-water showers! These people are on a mission.

I just dont get it desalinization works in other countries effectively. Perhaps the issue is that Metro water has more $$$ lined in pockets vs the guys with the desalinization?gabuelhaj wrote:One word: DESALINATION.

Perhaps we need to contact Al Gore and have him do a special on Desalinization, as they did with Global Warming and going green- heck everyone is now seems to be "going green" its making me sea sick...

Re: Plans for more water to go south
I read that in the LA Times yesterday. Didn't it say something about the tunnel bypass being used during times of flood?

Who needs terriost's to come over and do damage. water is the issue and with the north state already low and running out of water, they are going to take more south. State agencies are really not using their heads, at all. They will fully destroy that state yet without Osama's help. Bill K

Re: Plans for more water to go south
A stealth water stealing tunnel! I am sure they think they can drain the Delta without a major federal lawsuit. Either they have an ironclad contract with whoever owns the Delta water or they are on the crack pipe. I remember when I lived in Oregon in the 70s that S. California was trying to get a pipeline built to take water from the Columbia. Never going to happen wiithout blood spilling.

Some day they'll try from the Great Lakes too. Not a matter of "Will they..." its a matter of when.Ringer wrote:I remember when I lived in Oregon in the 70s that S. California was trying to get a pipeline built to take water from the Columbia. Never going to happen wiithout blood spilling.

Re: Plans for more water to go south
From reading the paper, I assumed this pipeline would be carrying flood run-off that just gets washed away to the ocean.
Re: Plans for more water to go south
That's a good one. Like I have said before, just takes somebody to say it for it to get printed. Doesn't have to be true.
