Launching at Castaic main ramp during windy season can be a real drag for me when I'm fishing alone. It seems that the wind always blows on the ramp, at least when I'm there. Putting the boat back on the trailer can be tricky. Can anything be done to curtail the wind just a little bit? I like fishing Casitas because the wind doesn't seem to hit Casitas main ramp as bad. Is it the Log Boom at Casitas or is it just the location of the ramp that makes it seem less problematic?
Thanks

Re: Lake Castaic Main Ramp Question
It's a combination of both location and logboom. There has been a long on going fight to get a log boom at Castaic. The powers that be don't feel it would help and really don't want to maintain it. weather it's money or time who knows. We may have gained some ground with the new person lori who is in charge of the lake. I keep hearing rummbling from people at friends of castaic of a log boom in our future but it's a wait and see if it happens.

I've also aways wondered why they don't use the West ramp during the winter. The main ramp may be bigger but it would seem they would have less traffic during the winter anyway.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Lake Castaic Main Ramp Question
Ralph,
I have actually seen them open the west ramp after Labor Day, when the wind direction was bad, and there was a tournament going on, so the lake was open. It can be done, but it involves changing the play at the line of scrimage. Not everyone can do that.

Re: Lake Castaic Main Ramp Question
The west ramp is high and dry right now. It is still 20 feet from being useable. But at the rate that they are filling the lake it ought to be useable by the end of the week.
