Your success with wacky worm rig(or not)
Your success with wacky worm rig(or not)
I have been trying to improve my hookup ration with this nail worm, wacky rig..I seem to get bites but lose the fish after setting the hook... I would like some suggestions as to hook size and types of hooks that work best with different worm sizes...I've tried leaving the hook exposed ( suffering snags ) and buried in the worm...I am useing Gammy circle dropshot hooks...Any suggestions would be appreciated....
thanks

for throwin wacky rigs i usally throw them with 2/0 owners worm hook. my hook up ratio maybe 8/10.

My suggestion is to use the senko rig that allows you to place the plactic ring around the senko and use a #1 1/0 owner mas. hook.
That's the way that I fish it.

Ricky's right.
The O ring/circle hook approach give almost 100% hookups. Just wait until you feel the fish, then reel set.

I use an octopus hook and snell it to the main line. I put the point through the worm twice. I thread it from front to rear, this way the hook is facing up(oppisite the nail weight). I'll leave the point buried if I'm in any kind of cover.
With a floating type of worm that weighted end of the bait is just tapping along on the bottom with the tail tangling toward the surface.
I usually get em pretty good like this, good luck.

One issue that you have is that circle hooks are not meant to be set. Just start reeling.
I use the 3/0 gammy with the wire guard with my senkos, never had an issue with the guard, but you do have to wait a beat or two before you set. I don't use the nail, I just crimp a split shot on the shank of the hook if I need the weight.
I find that you miss fish if you set too fast. Its like they pick it up but don't get it all the way in their mouth.
I like the tube though... I may have to try that.

I had the chance to see someone use the MO-Wak style the other day at Berryessa. It worked very well. The fish just grabbed it and took off. Using the small drop shot size hook, the fish set the hook them selves. They were hitting the 6 inch Robo Weenie.

When I wacky rig senkos I use the 1/0 EWG Gammie, never have a problem hooking fish. I rarely wacky rig other baits.

Gami makes the finesse wacky rig hook with a guard. I use it all the time and have very few snags. No matter what rig or hook you use it will snag from time to time. As for hook up ratio its awesome.
