Any Bear hunters out there?

Post by Gator »

If so, what general are do you plan to hunt and how do you hunt? I will be hunting the D3-5 area as time allows, still hunting only. Any of you do hounds?

I have 2 buddies who run Extreme Hunting Guide service out of Red Bluff. They are 26 years old and have some awsome dogs. If you are interested I can get you a phone number. Everytime I have gone with them we have treed bears. Great setup
I love huntin cause I love going deep into the bush and I always shoot twice!!

Love to bear hunt shot my first at the age of 15 in northern calif.
have gotten many since then all with hounds. Dad and I use to raise black an tan coon hounds had couple of walkers also. Would like to know if anyone hunts local bear and if they are looking for a hunting partner just drop a line.

Like chicken******Lol No it is good and it depends on the bear and when and where it was taken. Some have a little gamey taste and some dont.I take stakes and soak them in milk for a few hours and then roll it in flour and fry it.It IS AWESOME.You can even soak it in apple juice and give it a little sweeter flavor.

Everybody says everything taste like chicken if that is what i want i would just get a darn chicken.

Lippy,

LIVER :x That takes me back to my childhood, thats just pure nasty. No matter how much catsup I put on it still tasted like a slab of dry leather. Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt the liver a filter for toxins

Shawn,
You are basically saying it is not a sport.Have you ever chased the hounds threw the woods have you ever had the excitement of the dogs face to face with a big ol bear that wont climb?I take it you have not.Dogs do get hurt and so does humans chasing bears with dogs.Try not having bird dogs do the work for you and do it youreself. You like watching the dogs work dont you?Well that is what 99 percent of us like it is not about killing the game out of the tree.It about seeing these dogs work and to show off there training that has been put into them. And the time has payed off making a very proud dog owner.

Now on the other hand me and my buddies do bow hunt,They go for more than i do.They go for elk deer and other things,But i go for deer and bear.Granted i did kill only one bear with a bow.

Also the guys i hunt with a couple years ago treed something like 42 bears and only 2 were killed.I dont get what you trying to do.People like crap like this and that is whats getting are rights taking away. You dont think peta people dont read crap like this and use it for there purpose WRONG. Come on now we all love to hunt and want to keep our rights on hunting. But stuff like this gets people fire up.

And also i believe looking back on all the books and other info that hound runners have been around alot longer than bird doggers.

Shawn,

Can you answer a question for me?Have you ever been behind hounds in the woods? You said "easier"!It is not easier.I can tell you that. And how i got started in bear hunting and fox and bobcats with dogs is i am disabled in one leg and could not get around the woods like i really wanted and a dream of mine was to kill a nice big bear,Well i got a hold of buddy and he took me a bunch of times with no out come were i could get to them to take a bear. And one day when i was there we started a big ol bear that ended a dogs life and hurt a few more and then i got my chance. To them i owe alot of thanks being disabled i would have never been able to get one like that if it was not for the dogs. And also we hunt quite a bit and there is days we dont even get a track started.SO IF YOU THINK IT IS EASIER THEN GO OUT AND TRY IT.I GUARNTEE YOU WILL CHANGE YOUR TUNE ON THAT!

Hunted bears in WA as a youth from family members behind hounds between Olympic Nat Park and the Quinalt Indian reservation..

Passed a rifle shot some 6 years back at 60 yards on a 400 lb cinnimon sow with a cub that could of easily most likely met the legal requirements for the sow's taking in the Molkulmee Wilderness. (I left my tape measure and scale back at the truck)

Have hunted archery w/o success for both deer and bear in D-5 the last 2 out of 3 years.

To each their own in their time spent in the Outdoors- It is for your experience that you go outdoors. And not a place for others to nit-pick others in their own beliefs. Image

--Our hunting rights are crumbling as it is-- and the last thing we all need is everyone "dissin" anyone for what method they hunt their quarry- while in the bounds of the law- over their own personal beliefs of what "Is Sporting".

Hunters that divide Co-hunters inside and outside of their own beliefs are no different than anti-hunters altogther. --This type of squabble actually feeds the Anti's ....... and they love to see it happen amongs co-hunters.

Good will huting to both of you- and and may your greatest sucess be your time cherished while in natures' serinity following your dreams in your pursuit. Image

... God forbid the time that a fishing forum condesends someone for top-water fishing Buzz Baits or Topwater Frogs in the heat of the summer rather than using Jigs and Pork........ <Jigs and Plactic if they were more sporting. >

As silly as it sounds- That is what this pissing match has been to all eyes that have read it. -- Get out and do it YOUR way- If you are good enoufgh to show the good and the bad- you can have always have Gator re-name you as Ted Barta !! Image
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.
