Rain ? Moon Phase Bite time.

Post by Barry Watson »

The Accuweather Web site shows Feb. 2 as the start of a rain period in our area. They have been pretty good with the 15 day forecasts.

The moon phase charts are showing Jan. 31st as the big bite day for January and mid morning to mid day at that. As my partner says, " Thats what I'm talking bout." Start at 9 stop at 2 LOL

Bite turns on before a front moves in? Nah.

& the moon influences all water on earth, not just the ocean...

Accuweather pulled their rain forecast for early Feb. Bummer...I was hoping we would start running some water into the lakes. Still gonna fish that good moon phase on the 31st though.

Cooch,I'm heading out on the river tomorrow.Should I be concentrating on the upper portions of dead end sloughs or more towards the back of them?I was thinking fishing the upper portion and only fish the backs if there is deeper water there.
Thanks for all your helpI've never really talked to ya(except when I ran into ya in my kickboat) but have always taken your advice on here and from the bnt delta open.
By the way, those are some real nice feesh!!

have ta kick a long way to find them rock walls down Connection and Middle River! HAR! HAR! HAR! Typically I do fish dead end, clear backwater sloughs, but that is not where I'm catching fish right now. Deep rock walls, dirty water, dead high or low tide(perfect conditions the 1st two hours this morning) with the black jig.

The bank I fished this morning, my boat was in 15-18 feet of water. The fish seemed to be up in 8-12, which is much shallower than I had been catching them lately. It was pea soup fog this morning, water still 41. No explanation for them being shallow, other than, there are a lot of fish through out the water column, and I got lucky and chose the right bank this morning.

Beautiful fish there Cooch. We start looking for the big uns this time of year in hopes she will want to eat early. My buddie and I have had fun watching the moon charts ever since Bass started publishing them. We try to fish on high rated days and then note down if the fishing actually did get better during the bite times. It has been right about 80% of the time. The fact that we are out there fishing on those days could have something to do with it as well. Hahahahahaha Been doing it forever and it just adds some more fun to the whole deal. I first saw it done over 20 years ago by a guy that used a tide chart and adjusted it for the lake he was fishing in the foothills. I assume the moon chart is about the same thing.

Jacob, you can go as well but there ain't no carp where were going.

I hear ya Barry, I at times follw them moon phases too. I think my good fortunes of yesterday were all caused due to a Pre-frontal feeding frenzy. I spent two hours this morning in the back yard here in Sandmound and NEVER got bit! :(
