Terrorist Snooze Button

Post by Scott D. »

A little long reading, but WELL worth it. Wake up America

Interesting but so true!!
Subject: Fwd: America's snooze button

I am not saying that everything has been handled perfectly, but here is a little reminder why it was and still is necessary to go into the gulf again.
Bret

This is a little long, but very informative. You need to read the catalogue of events in this brief piece. Then, ask yourself how anyone can take the position that all we have to do is bring our troops home from Iraq, sit back, reset the snooze alarm, go back to sleep, and no one will ever bother us again. In case you missed it, World War III began in November 1979... that alarm has been ringing for years.

US Navy Captain Ouimette is the Executive Officer at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. Here is a copy of the speech he gave last month. It is an accurate account of why we are in so much trouble today and why this action is so necessary.

AMERICA NEEDS TO WAKE UP!

That's what we think we heard on the 11th of September 2001 (When more than 3,000 Americans were killed -AD) and maybe it was, but I think it should have been "Get Out of Bed!" In fact, I think the alarm clock has been buzzing since 1979 and we have continued to hit the snooze button and roll over for a few more minutes of peaceful sleep since then.

It was a cool fall day in November 1979 in a country going through a religious and political upheaval when a group of Iranian students attacked and seized the American Embassy in Tehran. This seizure was an outright attack on American soil; it was an attack that held the world's most powerful country hostage and paralyzed a Presidency. The attack on this sovereign U. S. embassy set the stage for events to follow for the next 25 years.

America was still reeling from the aftermath of the Vietnam experience and had a serious threat from the Soviet Union when then, President Carter, had to do something. He chose to conduct a clandestine raid in the desert. The ill-fated mission ended in ruin, but stood as a symbol of America's inability to deal with terrorism.

America's military had been decimated and down sized/right sized since the end of the Vietnam War. A poorly trained, poorly equipped and poorly organized military was called on to execute a complex mission that was doomed from the start.

Shortly after the Tehran experience, Americans began to be kidnapped and killed throughout the Middle East. America could do little to protect her citizens living and working abroad. The attacks against US soil continued.

In April of 1983 a large vehicle packed with high explosives was driven into the US Embassy compound in Beirut When it explodes, it kills 63 people. The alarm went off again and America hit the Snooze Button once more.

Then just six short months later a large truck heavily laden down with over 2500 pounds of TNT smashed through the main gate of the US Marine Corps headquarters in Beirut and 241 US servicemen are killed. America mourns her dead and hit the Snooze Button once more.

Two months later in December 1983, another truck loaded with explosives is driven into the US Embassy in Kuwait, and America continues her slumber.

The following year, in September 1984, another van was driven into the gate of the US Embassy in Beirut and America slept.

Soon the terrorism spreads to Europe. In April 1985 a bomb explodes in a restaurant frequented by US soldiers in Madrid.

Then in August a Volkswagen loaded with explosives is driven into the main gate of the US Air Force Base at Rhein-Main, 22 are killed and the snooze alarm is buzzing louder and louder as US interests are continually attacked.

Fifty-nine days later a cruise ship, the Achille Lauro is hijacked and we watched as an American in a wheelchair is singled out of the passenger list and executed.

The terrorists then shift their tactics to bombing civilian airliners when they bomb TWA Flight 840 in April of 1986 that killed 4 and the most tragic bombing, Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in1988, killing 259.

Clinton treated these terrorist acts as crimes; in fact we are still trying to bring these people to trial. These are acts of war.

The wake up alarm is getting louder and louder.

The terrorists decide to bring the fight to America. In January 1993, two CIA agents are shot and killed as they enter CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.

The following month, February 1993, a group of terrorists are arrested after a rented van packed with explosives is driven into the underground parking garage of the World Trade Center in New York City. Six people are killed and over 1000 are injured. Still this is a crime and not an act of war? The Snooze alarm is depressed again.

Then in November 1995 a car bomb explodes at a US military complex in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia killing seven service men and women.

A few months later in June of 1996, another truck bomb explodes only 35 yards from the US military compound in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. It destroys the Khobar Towers, a US Air Force barracks, killing 19 and injuring over 500. The terrorists are getting braver and smarter as they see that America does not respond decisively.

They move to coordinate their attacks in a simultaneous attack on two US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.. These attacks were planned with precision. They kill 224. America responds with cruise missile attacks and goes back to sleep.

The USS Cole was docked in the port of Aden, Yemen for refueling on 12 October 2000, when a small craft pulled along side the ship and exploded killing 17 US Navy Sailors. Attacking a US War Ship is an act of war, but we sent the FBI to investigate the crime and went back to sleep.

And of course you know the events of 11 September 2001. Most Americans think this was the first attack against US soil or in America. How wrong they are. America has been under a constant attack since 1979 and we chose to hit the snooze alarm and roll over and go back to sleep.

In the news lately we have seen lots of finger pointing from every high officials in government over what they knew and what they didn't know. But if you've read the papers and paid a little attention I think you can see exactly what they knew. You don't have to be in the FBI or CIA or on the National Security Council to see the pattern that has been developing since 1979.

The President is right on when he says we are engaged in a war. I think we have been in a war for the past 25 years and it will continue until we as a people decide enough is enough. America needs to "Get out of Bed" and act decisively now. America has been changed forever.. We have to be ready to pay the price and make the sacrifice to ensure our way of life continues. We cannot afford to keep hitting the snooze button again and again and roll over and go back to sleep.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Admiral Yamamoto said "... it seems all we have done is awakened a sleeping giant." This is the message we need to disseminate to terrorists around the world.

Support Our Troops and support President Bush for having the courage, political or militarily, to address what so many who preceded him didn't have the backbone to do both Democrat and Republican. This is not a political thing to be hashed over in an election year this is an AMERICAN thing. This is about our Freedom and the Freedom of our children in years to come.
If you believe in this please forward it to as many people as you can especially to the young people and all those who dozed off in history class and who seem so quick to protest such a necessary military action. If you don't believe it, just delete it and go back to sleep.

Scott,

Thanks for the post. It is very rare in this day and age for someone to repost something like this without the fear of ridicule. I spent almost 10 years on active duty with the Marine Corps and was stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia during the Beirut bombings and let me tell you, it was not a lot of fun. I applaud you for your post.

Iranian nationalists (students) condemned the Shah's U.S. supported regime and his "westernizing" of Iran. Why can't the USA just leave well enough alone, especially on a sovereign nation?

Beirut bombing had same MO. Get rid of US influence of a sovereign nation. Maybe this time, the occupation of Palestinians was probably part of the MO.

yada yada yada for the rest of the story.

Occupation of Palestinians is the root cause here. Fix that and the attacks will cease to exist.

Seems to me that America is creating this so-called enemy. These people just don't wake up and say "hey, let's go kill some Americans!".

As for 9/11, it was carried out by Saudi Arabians. Why didn't we attack Saudi? Because they own a significant part of the economy in the USA that's why. We were duped with smoke/mirrors that Iraq was behind the terror attacks, etc.

We need to see the forest through the trees here so you all pay attention.

Don't get me wrong, I'm for war, but only for the right reasons and the reasons the president speaks of is utter BS.

I support the troops as they are my brothers and sisters in arms but the BS from the president needs to stop!

Good luck!

I would like to ask a question - "How hard would you work for your family to survive after a nuclear attack?" I know each and every one of you would say “I would do anything for my family to surviveâ€

Hey Glenn, just a question here, not an attack on you. Everyone has their right to their opinion. However, here's my question. Would it be possible that our government officials know more than we do in regards to what's going on in this world, and how it affects this nation? And would it be possible that most of them are good hearted, and are truely looking out for the good of us all in this great nation? Just take for instance military rank structure and passing an order on to the troops. Maybe the "troops" don't know why they are doing it, and maybe they don't need to know the whole reason. They should trust in their superiors that they would not lead them wrong and bring intentional harm upon them. It's just their little "piece of the puzzle" to out into place to make the pretty little picture that is for the good of all. My opinion is that people want to know too many pieces to the puzzle, hence not allowing the pretty little picture to ever fall into place, making "the good of the people" not possible because of their own selfish interests. To leatherneck, I want to thank you for your service and the many "pieces of the puzzle" I am totally sure that you helped to put into place. Semper Fi Marine!!!

I don't think the USA is the cause for Muslim terrorism. Can you explain Muslim agression in these situations:

Kashmir, Hindus vs Muslims

Phillipines, Muslim millitants clash with Filipino Christians

Indonesia, Muslim militants execute christians.

Former Yugoslavia, Muslim millitants are roving town to town burning Serbian Christian Churches.

Afaganistan pre 9/11, Muslim extreemists led by the Taliban blow up Budhist monuments and temples

In thses cases I have listed above, Muslims are not getting along with their neighbors at no fault of the USA or Isreal.

Unfortunately for the people of Palistine and Isreal, nobody wants to get along. Who ever heard of a group of people (palistinians) demanding a group of people (jews) can not move in to their land? That's as absurd as you forcably keeping Chineese people out of your neighborhood for no other reason than they are not like you. Until blatant racism is over come and outlawed in the region (middle east) like it has been in South Africa and here in the US, peace is impossiable.

Hello, we won the war...

Post by Tornado Dave »

It ended with the fall of Saddam. What you have now is an occupation of a country that we don't control.

This is not about "cut and run", it's about moving out of the middle. Watching from the sidelines and letting the Iraqis work it out for themselves. Make no mistake, they are going to kill each other, they always have and they always will, but we can't stop that, or we would have by now.

By pulling back, but remaintaining in the region, we can reduce our force, remain vigilent in our war on terror, seek political solutions where possible and reduce the treat of invasion from surrounding countries.

Western occupations don't work in the middleast, we learned that from the russians and the afgans. So while we let them work it out, we also let them know that we are here and we are watching.

Last, but not least, I am tired of pissing my tax dollars away (and I give plenty) in some other country when our schools need more money and the fighting military deserves a raise!

Just one mans opinion...

Scott, thank you for posting that message. It should be read aloud and posted for others to see, because it's a scary realization. What most don't understand is the 180 degree ideological difference that we as Americans, have from these people. Radical muslim jihadist's haven't started attacking us because of our efforts in Iraq, they just have a much easier way to attack America now that we're in their part of the world. They're pouring in from other countries such as Iran and Syria, all to try and get their piece of the infidels, and slowly, they're gettin anhilated. I've seen first hand that these people hate us with a passion, and will do anything to kill us, but cowering back right now will only strengthen them, and their resolve.

Mistake or not, we have a mission to accomplish over here, and we must succeed. Failure is not an option and I sure as hell am not gonna let my brothers die in vain.

If you're ever out this way and want to go fish, let me know. I'll gladly take you out. Semper Fi

Scott,

I'm in the aviation side of the house. I'm a CH-46 Helicopter Mechanic and an Aerial Observer/Door Gunner. I fly CASEVAC, Raid, and General Logistical Support missions over here in the Baghdad, Falujah, and Ramadi AOR. The .50 Cal is my TO weapon in flight, and has yet to be needed. These assholes are getting better and better by the day at shooting down helicopters though, so we'll see. Anyway, when I'm back in town, I'd love to go fishing. It won't be until November/December time frame though. Have a good one Chief. And thank your Dad for me sometime, if you are still able. I absolutely respect and thoroughly enjoy talking to those that have come before me in the Marine Corps. Semper Fi.
