Re: BASSCAT Boats awarded JD Powers Award for 3rd year in a
Figuring these awards pretty important in relationship to value for the dollar ,as well as "bragging rights" ...cmon..who isnt recognized for beating there peers...is there a way to see the total number of units sold by the manufacturing companies? Auto, now boat...It looks like even R/V's are coming thru the JD Powers watchful eyes. My reason is simple..consumers get bombarded by these claims like the automakers favorite "Best in its Class" "Dont want to compete a Nissan with a Small BMW..lets make a new "class"...Which will trust me hit the bass boat circus soon. Anyways..I would like to see rolling units sold...along with these titles . This way I could see Make "A" and what they sold ,to compare B..C..and so forth. If I make one widget and you like it...and someone else makes 10 , and one isnt perfect...ya see where this leads? Ok..off my soapbox..and back to your regular scheduled nutcases...Charlie

We all have our favorites. Like the GM,Ford,Chev...cough cough,.,Dodge,lol...joking..anyways...all I would really like to see,and it includes like I mentioned the autos...would be the rolling units included with the accolades?(sp) . Wait and see...what we will be seeing are "classes" like the car commercials..(( Best boat in its class under 19'11 ft,under 50k,.with a black engine.)) Hows about something unique..we can handle it-the truth...Brand "A" sold 20 bazillion rigs complete, with a .02 complaint to approval rating. Brand "B" sold 60 rigs and had .02 rating...now tell me..which is the better manufacturer? Ok...ya-all have a great look and blast away,lol..btw...I have nothing bad to say about Cats..Charlie

Re: George & Korny right on
All bass boats are made pretty well today every one has its problems. But for the Peirce family to remain as a small company in America today is great. Scott at Bass Cat has takin care of me with any problems I've had, even to the point of sending someone out to pick it up and replace it. When they had probems with the first 10 new Pumas and recognized what it was. Man its the people that are standing behind the boat that make it so dam good to me. All I have to say to this other screw ball "if GM had the people that built there products really care about what they were doing along with the corp. people and designers ...., maybe they would be the best" Its not like they havent screwed millions of people before and never looked back Charles.
Here's a thought " Lets see how can I sell more Rangers boats ??? Oh yeah I'll just buy the biggest Bass tournament trail & make them drive Rangers. At Least Ewrin was man enough to addmitt it.
P.S. At least I wasn't " Groverized" like many of my friend.

Re: George & Korny right on
I agree, the Pierce family is as "Class" as it gets, right up there with Forrest and Nina Wood and I congradulate them on their award. All of the other award winners in the other categories were from smaller, independant boat mfg's also, so it is obvious that customer satisfaction is a big part of their business plan and they all should be commended. Ranger does not force anyone to buy anything, just awards their own customers with good programs and products. Nuf said. Rick "Groverised" Grover.

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
What I cant understand is boat price. Why does the yearly price increase outpace the National inflation rate. Even in a slight resession boat prices dont drop, rebate's get bigger then are reduced when the ecomomy improves. You can look at the Mirco outlook and say naaaaa this isnt true, because conciderations arnt made for downturns in the economy, but try looking at the Macro Graph.
Insulting people here is not my goal, but when you have to finance a new boat for 10-15 years, the same boat that just droped 10,000 as soon as you drive it off the lot, then in some cases have to buy another one in four years because your boat doesent meet tourney regulations ..... Thats insanity
JD Power should have a pole on what boats makers dont insult the boat buying customers by claiming this multi billion dollar company needs the money more that you do, so please take this price increase and like it.
Damn did I wake up on the wrong side of the bed. I'm going to get my coffee now

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
if you want to fish flw as a pro, you almost need to have a ranger. they get first priority to register and they also get the extra bonus. if ranger were to give out the boat certificate to anyone, no matter what type of boat, and i won, and liked the boat better than my cat, which i wouldn't, but figuratively speaking, i did, that would be one more ranger customer for life they would have. but since the bigger trails such as the series and tour fill up with ranger owners, us non-ranger guys get left out in the cold. so your whole "you don't have to own a ranger" is partially true and partially false. sure you don't have to own a ranger to fish flw, but it sure does help. i fish as a co-angler so it doesn't really matter to me anyway, but the extra bonus would be nice.
i have been even more turned off to rangers now than ever before. its all about my cat. my next boat will either be a legend or another cat, probably another cat but i will also look at the legends.

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
It's all about business. Lets face it, Ranger was smart enough to leverage the deals they did. Every other company would do the same thing if they had the foresight Ranger did. It's good business.
Re: Hey "Groverized"...

Come on Lance, business 101 baby! Only the strong survive.
Re: Hey "Groverized"...
gcopple,
I would think that if Ranger wanted to get more boats out there they would not exclude the free boat to a non Ranger owner, but instead they give it to a Ranger owner HUH
They should drop this whole rule about having a "newer" boat, either that or modify it. This rule just hurts the owners of Rangers that are trying to sell there used boats. If the market for used boats becomes flooded and it will, the prices you used to get will go down because owners need to unload them, unless you can make payments on two or more boats.

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
Funny... I bought my Ranger because I liked it - no strong-arm tactics involved. I also don't feel that I've been 'Groverized', whatever that is, but I did buy my boat from Anglers Marine. I also bought my previous Tracker from them... no pressure, good price, great service - that's all I ask for.
I've ridden in several different brands of boats, including Ranger, Triton (Aaron Martens' to be exact), Nitro, Champion, Stratos, and came to the conclusion that I wanted to buy a Ranger. Plain and simple. I've yet to regret that decision.
If you're happy with your boat-buying decision - great for you. If you're not, there's another manufacturer and boat sales location that should suit your needs.
Enjoy your purchase!

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
You know a few weeks ago JB (Dad) spun me around at Casitas in his 520, we all got on the front (3 people) and it hardly tilted, that in itself says something. I'm in no way unhappy about Ranger boats as a boat. Its the practices in which rules dictate new boat sales and the used boat market. Me, if I had to pick a Ranger, the 520 would win hands down, im not a Z guy.
Roger,
Rick doesent dictate Ranger policy no more than the biggest Ranger dealership in Arkansas, so Rick is not the "strong arm guy", Im not saying that in the slightest. The company that owns Ranger IS. Im sure he has input but when the brass makes the final policy thats thier call, no one elses.
Is it showing, the whole Gen X thing

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
Ron, thanks for asking, I go to Argentina tomorrow. Gonna miss a couple of DVL events, but should be fun pulling on those Golden Dorado. As far as boat pricing goes, as the price of Petroleum products continue to increase so will boat prices as most components in boat construction are Oil based. The other factor is Engine Technology. Dont just say that Rangers are expensive, all boats, Bass or Family are expensive. I have been in the business since 1980 and they have NEVER gone down. As for FLW is their goal to have the field full of Ranger owners, my guess is yes and that is their business. There are some FLW restrictions that I do not agree with, but again it is their company and they can make the rules if they want to. As a big Genmar dealer who spends much more money than any FLW sponcer with Genmar, my Pro-staffers cannot wear a Anglers Marine hat on the final day. Sucks, but it is their Sandbox. If Basscat, Triton, Skeeter, wants to give away $25,000.00 to one of their pro's if they win a FLW event they are more than welcome. Pony-up. They can run ads everywhere promoting that. Nobody stopping them but themselves. And I have no say in the rules. Rick G.

Strongarm...
Lance, my reply was in general to the thread, not specific to your comments. However, I disagree with any statements of strongarm policies with Ranger. Ranger Boats put up the money to fund the FLW Tournament trail, so they understandably give preference to their owners. I hardly think that constitutes strongarm tactics, just good business sense since they get mega-coverage for their events. The other manufacturers are free to also sink as much financing into a similar competing tournament trail, and hope that it becomes as successful, and thus showcase their product lines. The FLW Tour really only showcases one of their line anyway - the Z-series. If they really wanted to plug, I'd think that they'd have a number of their models represented? I for one applaud Ranger Boats for sponsoring one of the largest and most lucrative tournament series that exists today... and I'm sure most of the cashers from the recent National Guard Havasu tournament would agree.
Just my humble and possibly naive opinion, however...

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
I agree Rick, but to me it still comes down to Corp. greed. The bad part about it is since Oil has jumped over 100% within the last year I wonder what the annual price increase will be now? We all might be in for some real sticker shock

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
Roger,
How much money did they put up. The Pro side alone netted around 682,500 and 136,500 on the Am side. Being the primary sponcer I would think that Wall-Mark put up more than anyone. Networks also have to PAY FLW for TV coverage.

Re:
Right... pretty smart, eh?
Since when is it a crime or conspiracy theory for a corporation to make money? I don't see them gouging anyone (although I certainly DO wish their boats were cheaper!
), so I don't get the beef? Any and every business is in business to make money, unless it is some philanthropic organization. Hell, even Kaiser Permanente (my employer, which is a Not For Profit Organization) has to have a black bottom line.

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
Well Lance, in the last 3 years all the boat companies that I deal with have had Mid-year price increases instead of the usual Model Year price increase. Not a good sign. Anglers Marine spends close to $10,000,000.00 a year with Genmar and they still have their rules. We just go with the flow. Rick G.

MN,
Ill be looking for a new boat in the next couple of months. One will be the 520 and the other is the 20X2. The problem I see is trying to convince the better half after 4 years that the boat I keep in the garage, thats been babied and pampered is no good anymore, I'll need a new one.
If you know my wife you would rank that "problem" just as important as choosing electonics.
Ron I know what your going to say, "she was all for it" ahhhh but you should have heard what she said when we got in the car.

Re: Don't forget about the ....
You know I own a Ranger hat and I wear it often. One of the best "bass fishing" moments was when I meet the man, Mr. Forest Wood. I felt like a little girl at a Back Street boys concert. I never thought in a million years I would meet him. I used to read everything I could get when I was younger about him becasue he was Bass fishing's hero. So it was pretty cool. This all happened at Rick Grovers Bass-A-Thon, thanks Rick. Say does this mean ive been "Groverized", coooooooool

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
I let it slide by once.... but, two slams on Legend I won't let go!!!
What did Legend do to you Brian? Are you feeling them gaining on your precious Ranger?
The way I see it Legend is the only boat manufacturer willing to step up and provide some boats for anglers to fish for these days. I no longer see anyone fishing for a Ranger (unless you already own one)! Basscat has A boat they do for 100% Bass.... Legend is providing with Angler's Choice the chance for ANYONE to fish for 5 boats at the team TOC's (in the west alone) and 3 boats in the Pro/Am Events. Anyone can fish for these no matter what boat you are running!!! So this great RANGER company and other manufacturers are offering you what? I'll tell you what they are offering.... BUY One of OUR boats and we'll let you fish for another one.... but, good luck selling it because whoever buys it won't qualify for this deal in future events...
Please tell me where can I go sign up in my tracker/nitro/Basscat/Stratos/Ranger/Legend/Champion/Triton etc..etc... and fish for a boat???? Those tournament days are numbered and your making fun of the one company willing to step up for the anglers and give them a chance to win a boat!
LASTLY -
My alpha 199 Legend is no more a Hawk or Viper than it is a Champion... sure same guy designed all of them, but the new Alpha Series is a completely new beast and no matter what you say I drive one and why? Because it Rocks - and anyone who has ever been in my boat agrees!! Ask my last 2 ams from Oroville they both liked the way it handled the water and even commented how we past 4 Rangers on the way to our first spot like they were sitting still! So anytime any of you want to take a Legend on - all I have to say is BRING IT!... I will match my Legend against any of your precious Rangers... I'll smoke you on any lake with my regular Optimax against your XS/Evinrude/Yamaha whatever... Plus it rides 10X better and it is a better looking boat. 90% of the Rangers look identical --- BORING! In fact, after riding in about 10 Z-boats you couldn't give me one. The 520 is a nice boat - they should have stuck with those!!. Listen to the top notch pro's they will bitch about the ride in the Z's and yes I talk to many of them and off the record to friends they'll tell you what they REALLY think!! I road in Rus Snyders' Z20 on Clear Lake last summer and my back hurt for a week! Don't believe me ask him and I have a good back! I couldn't imagine if I had a bad back - I'd probably need traction!!!!
Wanna slam Legend when they had nothing to do with this damn thread than go ahead... but, be prepared to take some back.
This in no way is a slam against Rick and Angler's Marine... they run a great shop. I just recommend if you buy a boat from them... make it a Champion!
Yeah Yeah - Everyone thinks their boat is the best... I am no different... but - I don't feel the need to slam other boats for no reason. Truth is, I can probably get a great deal from any boat manufacturer... and I chose a Legend for a reason --- It in my opinion is the best all around boat on the water... and guess what more fisherman everyday are starting to see just that!

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
Dude, my stomach hurts for laughing so hard. Quit being a chick Tom and replace your panties for boxers. You should know me well enough to know that I love screwing around. Lay off the Red Bull and Riddlin.
Re: Hey "Groverized"...
No red bull and ritalin here... just don't like people taking stabs at Legend for no reason --- and I never wear panties!

You are funny.

Hey Brian -
I know you love screwing around.. as do I... However, I also realize that companies (such as Legend in this case) are working their tails off to make us an outstanding product and step up to the plate and provide us an opportunity to fish for boats... and to have their good name slammed with the names of past companies (that they had nothing to do with) that went out of business is a shame! (However, they did buy the boat molds originally from Hawk --- for PREVIOUS Legend models)
Companies work really hard to lose a false stigma like this and sometimes a simple joke can go a long way to continue it.
As you know in business a simple joke or slam can really do a lot of damage to a company. Imagine what the "Rat" lady from Wendy's did to their business.. as a joke or prank or ploy to make money. In a highly viewed forum like this one which has 1000's of potential boat buyers on it, a statement like this can be quite a bit damaging. Like I said, the joke was almost funny the first time (probably funnier to others than it was to me), but it was the second time that provoked my response.
And again - No ritalin- No Red Bull - No Panties here... Just Mountain Dew in an IV!

Damn Brian, you've got to go easy on poor 'ol Tom. You really upset him ! He 's working really hard on getting Ranger to advertise in the magazine he edits !! Ouch !!
Tom, I laugh at these silly posts. You like Porshce, Brian likes Ferrari, & I drive a Benz. It ain't the boat that cashes checks Bro...it's the person fishing from the front of it. I take no offense at you hurling insults towards the Ranger Z boat I chose to own. I happen to like it very much & am planning on buying another one in the future. I say what ever man. Drive the boat you like & millions of other happy owners will still drive Rangers ..It sound like you may need a valium & a nap though Dude!! Life is too short to let the brand of boat you drive work you up into such a lather!!

Re: Hey "Groverized"...
It has nothing to do with my preference of boat. It has everything to do with a company trying to do business and someone's attempt at a joke hurting that business.
I have nothing against Ranger as a company - Just don't agree with the way they force hands in the FLW and I think the 520 is a better boat. Trust me I am not the only one who thinks that.
Like I said - we all think we have the best boat on the water... no worries, but you don't see me putting a boat company in a negative for no reason!! Especially not the boat company who steps up to the plate the most for our anglers!
This isn't about who's toy is the best... just about leaving everyone elses toys alone while you play with your own!

No worries - I consider Brian a friend... maybe I came off stronger than I wanted. I know Brian is one of the best guys in this sport... No doubt about that! Just sometimes I get going and can't stop!
I have always said - feel free to mess with me... but, mess with my friends and you'll get my horns!
