Who would be interested.....

Post by Gator »

I am playing around with a crazy idea.

$1000 entry team tournament on the Delta in late July or August. 6 hour tournament or split weigh-in, haven't decided yet.

This will be an open book tournament. I will have all the figures there for all to see. What was taken in, what was paid out, how much I will et paid (yes, I will get paid to do this) etc.

There will be 100 boat limit on this tournament.

Here's the kicker. If I can make this work, I will pay back at a minimum entry fees to the top 50. Top prize looks to be $20000 for the winning team, with a dropoff to 10th, then basically return of entry fee to the top 50.

Let me know who is interested. If there is no interest I will shelve the idea. I am not trying to take over for any tournament organization or start my own, I am simply looking at offering a great deal to anglers who want to have some fun for a day. Also, the tournament will include lunch at the weighin. Probably hotdogs or something else that is simple.

I would say yes to the idea but don't like the 6 hour tournament.....I want a full 8 hours of fishing for my half of the entry:)

Sounds good!!!

Gator,,

$500.00 entry fee, at $10,000 First Place with most of the money in the top Ten. And pay to 50 places at entry.

You would get the 100 boats most likely and have it at a 3 fish limit or 4. Shouldn't be a problem getting a 100 boat field at this example. A 1,000 I would thing it may be tough to fill.

Good idea for a tournament like this. I think everyone here has good points. Three fish limit and $500 instead of $1000 sounds good, partly because it is a short fishing day and the other because of budget.

Will you help pitch in or better yet pay for the poly? They are not cheap. If they pay for that that is less money you will get in the long run. I have no problem with it being an option if something is suspecting but just to do it for $hi+s and giggles is a little over kill.

There not even good in court so who's to say someone doesn't know how to pass them or can't pass them when telling the truth,

but that is a whole different subject.

OK - I played with the numbers again. I can do a 100 boat $500 entry fee, but it would only payback the top 30. $10K first, dropoff to $1100 for 10th, then payback 11-30 $500.

Also, I did not mention before, there will be a Big Fish option and regular option pot. Big fish would be $50 and pay back 75/25 for 1st and 2nd BF. Options would be $10 and $20 with payback to the top 3 teams in the options.

Costs to put on the event would be roughly $3500. This includes staff for the day, food, Event Insurance, etc. I may try to get sponsors for the event. If I do, the costs will be reduced and again, it will be an "Open Book" for all to see.

I like the idea of paying more and payback going down to 50th.I like the idea of if I beat 1/2 the field I get my money back.Even if you could do something like that in the middle of 500 to 1000 like ($750) would be neat...

Gator,
Count me in, $500 or a $1000. This sounds like a hell of a lot of fun, but it would have to be 8 hours.

Folks, it cannot be 8 hours during the summer months per DFG, six hour rule mid June thru Sept for fish in the livewell so you should save your breath on that aspect.

we are all in!! sounds like a winner, but you may want to consider this ...do a split weigh in and pay the first half and second half top weights and then the overall winning team, then pay back down from there, i can help with some great sponsers if needed.

OK - I played with the numbers again - you guys are killing me with all the math!

OK - Same basic layout, team tourney, $500 entry fee per team with Big Fish and 25/50 option pots available.

Split tournament, 2 - 4 hour sessions. Say daylight to 11 - weighin, then fish 12:30 to 4:30, with a Hotdog feed and weighin/awards following/

Payout would still be $10K for first, with it dropping to $1100 at 10th place, then $500 to 11-30th place. The kicker is that the big sacks from session one and session 2 will receive $1000. This will come out of the entry fees, not an option pot.

Again, if I get cash sponsors for this event, prize awards will go up for the lower placing teams. If I get product sponsors, we will award those products to the teams out of the money.

I will be contacting DFG tomorrow to see about a permit and wil be contacting my insurance carrier for the event coverage. Once this is done, I will let everyone know if it is a go or not.

I am gettin excited about this! I have a great MC/tournament director lined up. I have never run an event of this magnitude but I think that we will all benefit from it!

Dude - it ain't even off the ground yet. I have no idea. I don't think it will have WB or Nutcase in the name, as this is something I am doing on my own, and it is definitely not in the mold of the NutCase events.

If I get a primary sponsor, I may put their name on it. Maybe I can play on the two session theme - I think I just thought of a name - I'll keep it quiet for now until I think that it is going to happen.

If you are interested in fishing this and have not already done so, please let me know. I would like to think that I can fill a 100 boat field with the offer that I have made. I don't want to put a lot of time and effort into this to see it fall on its face. And I am talking about alot of time. I already have 15-20 hours into this idea and it still hasn't happened yet. I will porbably have close to 200 hours invested if this comes to pass, so my fee will be meager in dollars per hour worked!

I would stick to a $500 entry. Doesn't look like the ol' Vanity Cup Tour is panning out with the $1250 entry fee. Last I heard there were only 40 or so boats signed up. But what do I know, you Bay Area boys make a little (lot) bit more than us Lake County folk!
