How is the bite?? Has the water cleared any?
Re: Cooch
Water is staining up some due to all the winds we've had the past week. Some areas are worse than others and yet there are still some very clear areas too. It's perfect in my book!
The bite out there has been awesome the past 4 weeks, giant bass are just gorging themselves. And a pot full of 3-4 pounders have finally moved up all over the River too. I'm not catching as many giants like the week of the 3-11th, but we're getting several fish a day over 8 pounds on a daily basis. Three times this week we've had 30+ fish days!
You need ta git out there and toss them big swimbaits, the Huds, SPRO & Reaction Strike trout baits are catching a bunch of big fish. And the ones that come up and swipe at it will blow yer socks off! I'm just getting too old ta chuck that thing all day! Guess I need ta start weight lifting again, or order me one of them BoFlex machines fer here at home! HAR! HAR! HAR!

Cooch-
Where are you throwing the huddlestons? I know that two weekends ago I caught 3 fish on a MS Slammer off of points. Is it the same with the Hud?
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Re: Cooch
Quite honestly Scott, I don't know precisely where most of the guys are tossing these swimbaits. Today was the first day I started tossing a weighted bait, the RS bait. I was tossing it along the outside drop offs and points of deep tulle islands. I have been fishing the Mission fish in some flats, and pitching it deep into sparce tulles around these same islands all over the River. I personally am not catching a lot of swimbait fish, I'm catching 70% on jigs right now and 25% on cranks.
But I have committed to myself to have a swimbait rod on the deck every day and give it at least 30 minutes of my time in various conditions through out the day to see if I can eventually figure out the abslute best times ta toss it and where. Now I guess I got two swimbait rods that have ta be out, the Mission Fish fer shallow applications and the RS fer deeper applications. Great, just what I needed, yet another rod on the deck. I need ta go back to my KISS theory, and just simply fish my jigs!

Re: Cooch
I know what you're talking about with the ones slapping at the bait.
I'm also spending some time with the swimbait. Amazing the way they kill this bait. Yesterday, in the wind, the bites were much better than last weekend. They wanted to kill it yesterday. Jig bite is was good also.

Re: Cooch
Scott,
Yesterday, I was out for 4 hrs also with swimbaits, mission fish, R2S 160 Minnow and the big Log BB1. Found fish at various depths. Water temps have dropped due to this cold front com'in thru, so I didn't expect really too much.
With the mission I like Bob and Cooch experienced short strikes. I came back in the same area with the R2S and landed 2 of the fish. But, both where on the back hooks. Both of these fish, where flip-able fish.
Im going out again this afternoon and trying a different approach using the same baits and throw in a mix.

Re: Cooch
It would be very wise if you guys read between the line's, when Cooch and Rich both talk about the Delta right now they are talking jig's....not swimbaits...The trips I have made up to the river recently the swimbait was nice, but the jig ruled...I could have caught the same fish with a jig ( with no short strikes ) ....
