Detail job

Post by Smile_n_Jax »

When I bought my boat last summer it had been sitting out in the weather up in Sonoma country for at least two years. It's badly oxidized. I tried a couple of automotive products, but they didn't last. Anyone know of a one-shot wonder product that will bring the finish out and last a while?

Jax,

When I bought my boat last summer it was heavily oxidized too.... I went to the local paint shop and they turned me onto a number of things.....the most econimical of course was a good non abrasive cutter and polish... I am at the office right now, so I cant get you the name of it right this minute, but by the end of the day I can have it for you..... It will take you alot of time and elbow grease but the results are amazing.....I spent probably a total of 2 days doing mine and now it's like holy crap.....the two days was just to do the topside of the boat, its 21'....oh btw... its hell on the hands... lol.. .they were cracked and dried out and bleedign like you wouldnt believe... lol.... but man it was worth it.....

I'll get back to you

Hit your local auto supply store and pick a product called clay bar, works like a charm on all kinds of finishes and is very eazy to use, will make that old gelcoat look like it just came off the dealer floor. :D
Any day on the lake is a great day

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie legend?

Starbrite cleaner... and follow up with the Starbrite polish has always worked very well for me on my sailboats. I used an electric osolating buffer/polisher for 95% of the task.

You can find it at any WestMarine store and it is fairly inexpensive.

I gotta put it to use this week to see if it still holds as true now as it did in the past.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Thanx all for the replies. Did some research and decided to go with the clay bar. Bought the McGuair's kit and will try it tomorrow, health permitting. Wanted to go up today, but just didn't feel quite right. I'll let ya'll know how it works out.
