Delta hot bite this morning
Re: Delta hot bite this morning
Yeah, it is a lot more easy to catch those weights in a non shared weight tournament environment. I highly daubt that we will see very many, if any, limits in the 30ies.
17-18 pounds a day to make the top 10 and 13-14 a day to be in the 50.
I am doing the Dobyns rain dance as we speak and I hope to see high muddy water to shut down that swimbait and dropshot bite.

Oh you'll see 30 pound sacks alright! And I have no doubts it will take 60 pounds to reach the final day. The guys who understand the adjustments required on the blue bird days, they'll be the guys who smack em! I can assure you, it ain't the dropshot bite ya need ta worry about! HAR! HAR! HAR!
Re: Delta hot bite this morning
HEY RICKY! HAVE YOU BEEN UP PRE FISHING YET? I HAVE TO AGREE WITH COOCH ON THIS ONE! 65 TO MAKE THE CUT.
WHY LEAVE FISH TO GO FIND FISH?
Re: Delta hot bite this morning
I agree that it COULD take CLOSE to 60 pounds to make the cut, but I also know that those team tournaments DID NOT have 400 anglers out on the water, each trying to catch a fish of a life time.
The leader MAY have around 60 pounds for 3 days, but 10th place will have in the 50s.
The Delta is about to get some pressure in the next couple of weeks like no other. Heck, I have 5 straight tournaments on the Delta and will be on the water for the next four weeks.
Weather will dictate the results, but the pressure is about to go to a whole nother level. Fishing a 200 boat tournament is a lot different than fishing a 40-80 boat team tournament or being our fun fishing.

Ricky..... take it from someone who lives here, and has been on the water every single day, I assure you, you will not see the amount of pressure on this pond, from 3-10 thru 3-17, like that of what we've had from the 3rd of February, through this past weekend. The bite has been phenominal, every day. Granted, if anglers are narrow minded and locked into places like Frank's and Lil Mandyville, or if fish should by chance move up ta spawn by then(which I seriously doubt will happen), they will experience precisely what you've said. These places though, will still kick out big sacks to those who figure it out, even with the pressure.
This is a massive river system, a fishery with massive numbers of bass. We've only seen maybe 20% of the fish on this River, start to transition out of their winter phase. They are far from being ready to spawn, and will not be in that "pre-spawn" mode by the time the FLW NG git's here. Just this week alone, we're starting to again catch fish from 3-9 pounds, that look like they haven't eaten in months, which they haven't.
The fish are gorging themselves right now, because they have been dormant fer so long. There ain't a bass on this River, that has ever experieinced sub 50 degree temps, much less temps as low as 39 degrees fer as much as a three week spell, for over a 2 month period. Their reaction during this time, was ta just hunker down deep and be dormant. Now, as the temps are going up and down, and we know fer a fact when it goes down, the bite fer 99% of the anglers goes down with it, they are just running up shallow, grabbing a bite and going right back down where they came from. This has been so evident by how fast the fish move out to deep water whenever ya set the hook on one. They are not running back into the tulles cause they wanna be shallow. When they are in this mode, they are easy to catch.
It was so funny to watch the massive waves of boats, flooding Frank's back in that first week. Most of the guys were back inside fishing the shallow areas where bass would typically be spawing. But that wasn't where the bite was. And even with all that pressure, we'd pull up and start fishing the outside of the tulles, and spank em! Since the temps have dropped the last week or so, I began to notice fewer and fewer boats in Franks each day. A couple of times I went in there just to check, and the bite was not near as good, as when it was indeed hot and had all them boats around. We could find some good fish, but only in specific areas that related to their seasonal Migration from deep to shallow. It's not the pressure that ran the fish out of Franks, it was the temperature drops. The bite in other areas of the Delta, continue to remain on fire. The reason why, much greater deep water access, and that's where the fish have been all winter, and still remain today. They are not so interested yet in beeing so shallow, every day. The bite on this River is only going to git better here, not worse.
Granted, when the time comes in maybe late March and April, that these fish indeed do move up to start nesting, your "pressure" theory will hold true. I'm not gonna dispute or take away from the success you've had here, you've done well over the years. But if you lived here and were on the water every single day, your assesment would be a lot different.
Good luck to ya buddy! We'll certainly be rootin for ya!

I agree with you Ricky
It can happen, but it won't take 60 to make the cut. I think you are pretty close with your estimations. I was thinking the same thing.
Its March not April, pressure (7 days worth until the finals) + Cold fronts+ muddy water=feast or famine in March.
It's totally different fishing in the middle of the week with an off limit.

Re: I agree with you Ricky
Yep Ken,
There are a lot of people who think that the Delta is going to break wide open but I believe that mother nature and the format will have something to say about that.
I think 18-20 pounds a day will result in a leader and winner, which would yeild in the 80 (give or take) pound range. The top ten may take 45-50 pounds over three days.
My only point was that it is a lot challenging to catch a 30 pound limit in a non-shared weight format verses a shared weight format. With that said, you will see some boats where the pro and non-boater will each have 20 pounds, thus decreasing the opportunity (chance) that the boater (pro) will have those Delta hogs all to his (or her) self.

Re: I agree with you Ricky
I agree that 18 to 20 a day will be walking tall in the FLW. However it is the delta! My results have been spotty since February. Some awesome days mixed in with weather changes and some terrible days. Three weeks ago I spent 3 days with Paul Elais aquainting him with the delta for the Bassmasters Elite Series. On one cloudy windy day Paul caught about 30- his best 5 about 34 his best ten about 55. So a pro can bring 35 even in these tough deals with non shared weight. Do it everyday for 3 days? No way! The weather changed and the next day Pauls sack would have been 13 lbs.
The only person I know of who can bring a 30+ pound sack 4 days in a row in any condition at any time of year is Cooch. We are fortunate that he will not be competing with us. If he were I would have entered on the back seat side. Sapp may not fish it either because his way up the river water will be very hard to get to. That hurts me too and it is the only area I ever do any good in (25 pound bag). Sapp is damn good but he aint no Cooch. I would also look out for Brian Roland! Give him a swim bait and he might only catch 3 but they will average 8.5 or better. Ricky I would quit arguing with Cooch and listen better. Brian does!

Sapp Aint no Cooch????LMAO
Thats funny I believe Sapp has won 32 pro ams Hmmm I think. I think that speaks for itself!! Yeah he does not talk about 30lbs bags he just brings 20 to the wieghin just about any day! I looked at the tournaments and I dont see any 30lbs sacks wieghed in by cooch or his partner Charlie!!
Re: I agree with you Ricky
One thing is for sure, no one knows what will happen until the tournament but Ricky's estimated weights look on the money to me.
Ken mentioned it's totally different fishing in the middle of the week with an off limit; it's also totally different when you have to bring your bag to certified scales!
Anyone sacking 25-30lbs a day with consistency would be out of their mind not to put their money up.
Why psychics do not play the lottery is beyond me.

Hey Mr. Davis,
Just wanted to thank you for thinking of me.
I had Paul stay at the house and he was a down right gentleman.
He had very nice things to say about you.
Good California Hospitality...I'd say!

Re: I agree with you Ricky
I'm curious to see how this recent moon phase has affected the big sacks on the Delta.
Not to keep this going but...
I would suggest everyone remember the AC Pro/Am last year around the same time.
Weather and water clarity will always dictate the weights.
t-minues six days to the rumble on the Delta.

Re: Roberty should be
Who wants to bet me the winner cracks the 100lb barrier? 5 5's a day aint that tough. Or will it be? Just don't stickall the 8 to 10's during official practice 'cause the winner may need a couple like that to balance out a few baby 3's that may make it to the scales after all. You can bet at least 2 of the 4 days will be one of those deals where your throwing 4's back by noon with 22 in the well and you got that feeling in the pit of your stomach that your still gonna get your butt kicked if you dont have at least 28. "Run and gun" or "stick and pick"? Those will be the decisions that make the difference next week. I think the pro's will be feelin' alot more pressure than the fish ever will! Take it from someone who already has butterflies (more like bats) in my stomach. Have to admit though, I wouldn't trade next weeks fishin for nothin. So bring it boys, and lets "git in on like Donkey Kong!!"
Re: Roberty should be
Is it STILL 6 more days until I get to go fishin'!??? This sucks! Let the PiG's begin!
