I watched the Busch Series race on TV on Saturday (Man what a finish!) and went to the Nextel Cup race on Sunday (thanks to my friend and fellow Nutcase Mike Nance, who I finally got to meet in person). In spite of all of the pissing and moaning about the recently modified track, it was one FAST race.
It was great to see that the guy that I had picked to win it (Jimmie Johnson) did so. It was his third consecutive NASCAR win at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
There were 160,000 fans in attendance (a new record for the LVMS) and it was the largest crowd to ever attend a sporting event in the state of Nevada. It took me 3 1/2 hours to get from the LVMS to my room (a short 14 miles away), which is exactly how long the race itself was.
I have to admit that the people who attend these races are a great bunch of folks who are (for the most part) very well mannered.
