Western Rally @ Clear Lake

Post by John Barron »

Ray L and I were talking yesterday about going up and fishing the Clear Lake Western Rally this July. I know it's early but July will be here before you know it.

Anyone else thinking about going? It should be a kick and fishing in July at Clear Lake is awesome.

I've made the last two in a row and yes, I'm always thinking about going to Clear Lake but my present ocupation has me by the nads :x The bite there is nothing short of spectacular at that time period giving you odds on that dbl. digit...... Topwater no less  so I'll play it by ear because I have a home away from home up in Lakeport and will be there in late June also  and I did hear my excuse for going being given to me by my significant other so I'd say 60/40 :roll:I sincerly encourage anyone that haunts this site to come fish three tournaments with us at the Bass Capital of the West.

But it is a much short drive for me. :)

Come on up! It's a blast and the fishing is awesome in the summer. Not to mention the scenery on the docks. Ask anyone that has attended and they will tell you this is probably one of the most enjoyable tournaments you can fish.

Tip - leave the swim baits at home.

Hey Brian - If you will guarantee that you come up here, I'll guarantee you a roomie. It may be the alter-ego of our beloved Mr. Collins - HUBSPINNER - but at least you'll have a plae to sleep.....well, don't know if I'd go to sleep if he's in the room.....ok, a place to rest.....well, I don't know how you'd be able to rest always looking over your shoulder....ok, a place to store your clothes.

So come on up - if you come up and are available to fish on Thursday or Friday, I can show you how truly little I know about the lake!!

I presume that there are RV accommodations locally? I'd be bringing the motorhome and looking to camp out on the lake if possible, and as close to the event action as possible.

There is a RV Park right at Konocti Vista Casino.

The place is the perfect host for this event. Got a motel, RV park, Restaurant, Casino, boat slips, convenience store...

That is WAY cool... more than I can hope for. Mine loves camping, but wants to relax and sleep in. She won't go for getting up early, just to go out and catch those little green (and brown) critters. Can't even get her interested in fielding a rod in the afternoon... tugging on fish just doesn't appeal to her. Regardless, she indulges me and that is fine. She's happy sleeping in and relaxing, and I'm happy getting up early and tugging on fish... marriage made in heaven!

Hay Tuna,

Too bad you may have to miss this one because you maybe broke before blast-off, no gas money, LOL!!!!!. Got on the right fish before Gary, Korny, myself, John, or Dewayne. 6 fish for the event to win it estimate wt between 25-30lbs. Big fish 7-10lbs.

Handy-Cap you'll have is if Gary draws another Misty Girl. Korny's batteries go dead from Pre-fish'in, John get lost on the tables, Dewayne gets a banana in the boat (Courtesy of Seigee). Me, I get lucky and find one without buck-teeth.

and o'ya and if by pure luck there no jig bite and someone cut all of the Jig hooks in Cooch's boat.

Hey Rich... no matter, 'cause I'm in donor mode anyway. Not having ever fished there, it will just be a matter of trying to sort out which end is up! However, you're right... I may just be running on the trolling motor outside of the launch area, as I may not have enough left over for gas. Oh well, sounds like a ton of fun anyway!

And thanks for the tip about the skeeters, Rip. I'll have to warn the wife over and over, as they always eat me alive (and leave her alone - go figure!).

This is all just for fun so if you need some fish just let Gary or me know and we will point you in the right direction. We do charge one Micro Brew per fish caught though.

It is really harder finding areas with no fish than finding fish that time of year.

OH Yea! And if your wife is a Heart fan there is a concert at Konocti Harbor on Sunday. If you have any money left. :)

I also hear thei spa is nice.

Cool... I'll be sure to stock up on some frostys and have ample supply before we leave then.

We saw Heart last year at the LA County Fair, and they were great. I'm sure she'd love to see them again. I'll have to buy tickets in advance, because I don't see my cash flow in a positive light once we get there! I'd leave the cash at home, and claim ignorance once we got there, but she's got plently of plastic to break the bank so it wouldn't matter anyway! That's OK - she lets me play so it's only fair...

I thought we agreed to market our fish for two micro-brews this year.

Roger,

Like Dewayne said, this event is more about fun and comraderie (yes, we are competivie about it too :) ) so if you need any help be sure to hit us up for info. I usually spend the week before the Rally up thar for Vacation :D and Dewayne ain't kiddin' about it usually bein' harder to find a place not to catch a fish than it is to find a place to catch 'em...Catchin' the donkeys can be a little trickier though

It only takes 5+#ers to win.

There are two many fish to charge 2 beers a fish. I would get too drunk and not be able to fish.

PS - I was selling him your water anyway, so I figured you too would be charging him. :)

next to nothing money wise and done in good spirit and for only bragging rights. If they are having Heart at Konocti Harbor Inn will the rooms go up? I heard some whining about the inconsistancy of room fees because of this issue last year on the Northern board but I have not personally experienced anything along those lines. I only wish they would put in a microwave and a fridge. I know that alot is being done to get sponsers for this event but I'd do it on a jar of peanut butter and twenty waters. If it is unfeasible to feed us all than let us know ahead of time and we'll have a Pot Luck lunch or have 25 pizzas delivered.

The concert is at Konocti Harbor. Since Tony has rooms blocked till Sunday it should be OK. Get your rooms reserved early though as the way they run the place now you never know. I will probably stay at Kelseyville Motel as it is a little cheaper.

Well, I spoke with the wife last night regarding this event, and of course SHE'S ALL IN. All I had to do was say "motorhome trip" and "casino", and she was all over it. We'll be making our plans soon, so we get confirmations.

What are the details of the Heart concert? Tickets available through Ticketmaster or something? I guess I should probably just go check out their web site for the details...

Thanks for bringing this to our attention... it could cost me big, but sounds like it will be a great time!

Well, after much debate I decided not to take the motorhome to the Rally... a long trip, lots of gas, and little time equaled taking the Tahoe with the Ranger in tow and staying at the hotel.

I just got my reservations in for a room, as well as my registration for the event - can't wait! I'm looking forward to meeting many of my fellow Nutcases, and getting my first chance to fish Clear Lake... should be a great time!

Don't forget to get your reservations and registration in - sounds like the rooms are booking pretty fast.

Lance, I went ahead and booked a room at Konocti Vista... their $89 rate is a deal, all things considered. Are you and Lil'T thinking about going?

Scott... I've heard so much about it, and can't wait. Now I have to get a map, and sort out who might be willing to share some basic information and start formulating a game plan, since I won't be able to do any pre-fishing. It should be loads of fun, regardless!

Amen to Gary!

Roger, this is one of the most exciting tournaments in the west. Its low key, everyone wants people to catch fish and your thumbs HURT by the end of the weekend! Last year, my right thumb was so torn up from the teeth that I couldn't even thumb a fish with my right hand...period...and I even have a net!

I barely know Clear Lake, but I will be happy to give you some ideas as well if you don't get some good info from the many locals.

Be there...you will not regret it!

If it is your first Rally you have to bring a Micro Brew from your home area to share with any past Top Nuts that happen to be in attendance.

Would hate to see you get awarded Gary's Numb Nut award for breaking a rule before you even get through check in. :)

Gary,
I might still be able to catch a couple of them Clear Lake fish. HHMM! One rod this year or two?
