My Bassmaster Elite Tournament

Post by Jim W »

I would like to thank everyone for your congratulations.

I would like to start by thanking Triton Boats and Cy Chan at Stanton Marine. As a major sponsor of the BASS Elite Series, Triton is given four co-angler entries. I was lucky enough to be offered one of those entries. I would also like to thank my other sponsors, St. Croix Rod, Robo Worm, Maxima Line and Smelly Jelly.

My goal when I left for Clear Lake was to make the top fifty cut and be able to fish all three days. I have only been on Clear Lake once before and that was over ten years ago. I didn’t bother pre-fishing since I would be sitting in the back of the boat and going wherever my pro for the day wanted to go.

Wednesday afternoon was registration, dinner and angler paring. My partner for the first day was Doc Merkin. He told me that he was on fish and to plan on fishing a lot of plastics. That couldn’t have made me happier.

I started off Thursday morning drop shotting a 7â€

Congrats! Great Story!

How did your Pro hold up when you caught the 33 lbs??? That is a record breaking weight almost anywhere from the Pro side, let alone from the back of the boat.

"Stoked" is the best word for it. I was working Thurs and Fri and couldn't get the live weigh-in, but I did have the leaderboard up on my screen. I was in the middle of a phone call when I glanced over and saw the 33# 8oz. Oh my God! Watched the weigh-in on Sat. I'm so proud!
