Yes I have always thought the ribbons on the trolling motor
I think they are a good Idea. They are put on when your livewells are checked and lets other fishermem know that you are in the tournament for the rest of the day. The band around the big motor might be even more effective as lond as it doesnt harm the finish.

Re: Ryan, didnt you know you are supposed to have
Vince has given us a chartruse ribbon to tie on our trolling motor at live well check. I tied it on but it flew off doing 70 mph on main lake. If it was a little longer I could have tied a double knot and it would have stayed on all day. The boat I saw did not have the ribbon on the trolling motor. I think its a good idea to have a mark for other anglers to see just for this reason. see ya on the water at reapers 4-21-07

DELTA RATS??????
SORRY: I thought a Delta rat was a local, not a bunch of girlscouts running around with a camera playing traffic cop! if some guy is'nt pulling a 10 ponder out of a cage, and is just speeding move on, let it go,worry about your own fish ! not someones boat skills

Ribbons
It might have stayed on if it was more than 4 inches long. I had a problem just tying a regular knot with it. This was the first tourny I have had to tie a ribbon on so I didnt know if I needed to have it all day. I just figured you needed it when you blast off at the beginning. No one said otherwise. I think its a good idea and would like to see it more

Re: DELTA RATS??????
I don't know about any of the older guys (Jim, Cooch et al) but I am proud to call myself a Delta Rat and I don't care who it is, if you are violating the rules and I see it I will report to the TD. It may not do any good in some cases, but I bet the rest of the field watches that particular person just a little bit closer the next time.

If you ever see me cheating,
Please tell me to my face. It will be accidental in my case, I will not hold a grudge and I will DQ myself.
By the way age and time on the water alone does not in my opinion make you a Delta Rat. There are many other qualifications. Only Delta Rats know what they are, and since I am only a wannabe Rat of any kind I dont yet know he rules.

Re: DELTA RATS??????
Let's see Kelly, I guess that means I can blow through any speed zones, cull dead fish, insert weight into my catch to make them weigh more, not bother with a life jacket or running lights or kill switch, weigh in whenever I feel like it, keep a six pack on ice and a bottle of Jack for the morning ride, let my partner off the boat to net the fish I caught on the other side of dock, chuck a live minnow or crawdad, use large trebles when I'm sight fishing so if the darned thing won't eat I can just snag 'em, fish in the designated off limits areas, sit on a point until my buddy in another boat shows up to fish there, and so on.
After all, all we're really concerned about is whether or not you got a fish stashed somewhere, right?
Doesn't make any sense to me but what the heck, it's all good.

Re: DELTA RATS??????
Play by the rules, or don't play at all. If I was doing something wrong, and someone told the TD, and it got me Dq'd I would not be upset with that person. For one thing I don't cheat, and if I make a mistake than thats on me. If people don't step up, and say something than the people at fault will continue break rules.

sTony & G-man,
It is all about policing ourselves. If we let things go and non-toourny fisherman see us it just gives them one more excuse to hate us.

Re: DELTA RATS??????
Look fella's I was at stren in shasta and got bit bysome super spider and it turned in to staff infection and on day 2 I had a fever of over 105 for more than 8 hours and was DQ for my am makin a cast from the front he had a good day 1 and a better day two some one saw me laid out on the boat but inwstead of seeing what was wrong he called the TD and I don't remember putting my boat on trailer or going to hotel or spending the next to days in the ER, I trybed to take the whole rap of the DQ it was not my ams falt that I as A pro could not hold up my end of things like running the boat, now a REG, would have came to see what was wrong and jonny weekender! just didnt care I almost died or could have killed someone by driving, the doc say's I will show damage as time go's on, so was that right ?? by the book it was. but we should look out for each other if someone is speeding why not just go talk to him frist as a fellow bass angler, pro,co not just take him out of the mix some do have to live from fishing, so if its just to take some one out then just tell on who ever leading I sure not everone waits to fully pass 5mph zone before he steps on it and I dont have any real hard feelings to the guy who called in but man I real could have used some help

STONEY;

I understand your feelings
I think we all do
I remember once when a pro came in to the weighin at Bigbreak Redman tournament with the zipper on his life jacket down about 3 inches because it had broken during the day. His life jacket also had straps that were all buckled.
The check in boat guy saw the zipper down. This was a tournamemt where the co angler had to sign the weighin ticket certifying that all fishing and boat operating had been done within the rules. They were both DQed and if I remeber right they would both have received substantial checks.
There are others who will also remember this situation. Stuff happens I am truly sorry that this happened to you, but I dont trully know what else the tournament director could have done that wouldnt have caused more problems many times in the future
