A BIG Thank You to the Friends of Castaic Lake (Very Long).

Post by Ron C »

I want to thank (Topwater) Terry Kratzer and the rest of the Friends of Castaic Lake for their efforts in putting on a GREAT charity event. You made one twelve year old boy very happy (not to mention his old man).

Having run charity tournaments for over fifteen years I can tell you it is a ton of work. The Friends of Castaic Lake have been in business for a very long time and have donated hundreds of thousand of dollars to the Castaic Lake Recreation Area over the years. They are a great bunch and all of their efforts are sincerely appreciated. I am confident that this event will be much more successful in the future, especially if you get George Kramer involved in it.

When I first learned of this tournament a few short weeks ago, my partner selection was automatic. The old Bassing for Abused Kids tournaments were the only tournaments that my schedule would allow me to fish with my son Timothy, so when I asked him if he wanted to fish this one, he said “Heck yes!â€

Thanks for the Great read, Ron. That's what fishing is all about, I know, throwing back 4lbers is great, but c'mon! ! That has to be one of the "Special Days" that goes into your memory logs. Congrats to you and Timothy.

Great job guys, and thanks for the great report, Ron. It is interesting and helpful to me, as our club had our tournament there that same day and most of us struggled as well. I've gone over the day time and time again in my mind, but haven't been able to piece together many of the resultant answers. I found one vague pattern (fish seemed to be in the backs of the cuts), but it was sporadic enough that I was uncertain whether it was really a pattern or not.

Great job on a tough day!

Always a great feeling to get them when most eveyone else is struggling. :-)

Well done.

Great story Ron. Even better that your son was there. I got a two year old and can't wait till he can fish.

Ron-thanks so much for the kind words, it was great seeing you and Tim finish near the top. I remember you saying a few years ago that of all your tounament plaques you have earned over the years, your favorite was the one from the BFAK event that you earned with your son. Now you've got another favorite plaque for your wall, great to see! It certainly was a lot of work to pull that event off but it was well worth it. I will certainly start work on this a lot earlier next year and will contact George as well. When I get a chance to write a complete story I'll send it off to the FOCL webmaster and will have him post pics as well. I'll put the story on this site too.

Just to add to the fun I went out fishing with Homer after the event and got a couple of keeper sized bass on my new Kistler Rod that I got from DL. Great rod!

Tuna Man, ya'll should have come over to the West Ramp and joined us!

Next year I am hoping to have the event on March 22nd, again the day before Easter. It keeps folks like Ron in town, no big tournaments being held out of town that weekend! A wee bit early but it will be fun!

You and I had talked about it some time back, and at that time I bounced it by the club, but I hadn't seen anything recently and, quite frankly, it fell off my radar. When I saw your post last week, I believe, it reminded me but was too late to switch our arrangements. Sorry - perhaps next year? Sounds like you did a great job and the participants had a good time.

Well done Ron.... Great to see your son out fishing. I wish I could have made this event but with Easter and going to church and also family dinner on sunday it was not in the cards. Maybe I can do it next year with my daughter. She loved it the last time we went to this event and she thinks it is a great cause anyway.

Hey Roger (and other clubs), consider this...

Post by Ron C »

...have your club tournament on the same day as the Friends of Castaic Lake (FOCL) Bassing for Charity tournament and use the FOCL weigh-in as your club weigh-in, too. This way you can do both tournaments and get a free ride on the FOCL's DFG permit (and variance). I have done this several times for clubs over the years. Just a thought.

Hey Topwater Terry - March 22, 2008 is INKED in the book! (Did you copy that Kramer?).

Ron, Terry approached me some time back and suggested just that. I bounced it by the club, and there was some interest. However, it just slipped off the radar, as there weren't any posts in the preceding weeks, and I'm just getting old and forgetfull.

We'll see if we can coordinate it for next year... I like the idea myself.

Thanks!
Roger
