Off Topic, Gotta Move

Post by DanWarme »

Yup, time to get the F### outta here.
They celibrated Easter yesterday by having a drive-by right in front of my building. Guy was lying in the gutter not 50' from our front enterance. Don't know if he made it or not. Wasn't worthy enough to make the evening news apparently. Ron may have heard about it over in Van Nuys. although it's probably 1 of 30 or 40 last weekend in So Cal the way this place is going.

Between the gunfire, and having to walk 1/4 mile to get to my car every day to go to work, I've about had it. Anybody know what housing prices are like in the North Valley, west of 405. Have they gotten any better or they still wanting 700K for a shoebox? I need a 3 bd minimum with a double garage to house the ranger. Oh, and NOT in a war zone :!:

If I had a choice I'd move to Maui. 15 mph speed limit and people actually follow it. some mellow cats out there. Must be that Maui Wowie  Seriously though you need to move out of SFV and move to the SGV. San Dimas and surounding communities are quiet and safe.

Forget every other place. Move to Temecula. 20 minutes to DVL, and no crime. At least not yet.

I hear you Dan. That's why I moved away from Huntington Beach in 1993 to Idaho. Yes, I do miss being able to fish 365 days a year but the fishing here is top-notch, the people are top-notch, housing prices are way low and the country is gorgeous.

I take care of my winter-fishing jones by heading to CA for a couple weeks in the winter and then again in the spring and summer.

Traffic? LOL. there isn't such a thing. I drive 40 miles one way to work and get there in less than 35 minutes. The speed limit is 75 mph (towing), there are no launch fees and the lakes are open 24/7. Then, in the fall, everyone starts hunting and you have the rivers and lakes to yourself -- unless of course you hunt.

I do miss aspects of socal but overall, we feel we made a great decision on moving out. Things I miss are: the ocean, Castaic, Casitas, Cachuma. But, I don't miss paying $25 to get into Castaic, three hour drives from Castaic to my house in HB, lines of 200 vehicles trying to get into Casitas, drugs and drive-bys. I'll take my little old 4-pound smallies, no boats and no traffic any day. LOL.

Take care

Forget Maui. Love it, but it's too commercialized. Move to Hilo on the Big Island. Mellow, old school Hawaii, no tourists. You can retire, get fat, and surf everyday.

Burbank and Kester, North of Burbank, (Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Adjacent), the homes are now selling for mid 500-600k. Peaceful neighborhoods.

The homes are built in the 1950's and most have been re-modeled.

Might as well forget Hawaii at all if housing prices are a concern. They're the number #1 housing market in the country with a median house price of well over 700K. Now the median price is the midway point int he housing market but on an island like Maui the average home sale price is over a million dollars right now. And the thoughts of moving to big island are getting dashed because lots of islanders already there are doing exactly that in a market where there aren't a whole lot of homes to begin with.

Then you look at the overall cost of living and Hawaii is once again the the most expensive place to live, eat, drive and what not. A gallon of milk on Maui was over $6.

Naw Dan. I ain't tryin ta piss ya off. I just understand what you're going through. It's tough to leave the place where ya have so many roots planted......but, at the same time, once you give it a try, you'll have few regrets. That's my experience anyway.

Big Island is still the best value in Hawaii. Obviously, it's larger than all of the other islands combined and one of the least populated. Forget about getting a deal in Kailua/Kona, but you can still get a good deal in Hilo. Bring an umbrella though!

Love to hear about it.
Most of the time I'm trapped on the 405. The days that it takes me 2 hrs (or more) to get to work is usually because I have to run my kids from Van Nuys out to their school in Granada Hills, (opposite direction) before I can turn around and start creepin my way back over the hill. The short cuts I know about aren't really viable from there.

Not so bad now really. Last spring when I started UCLA, gong to CSUN full time, and taking care of my kids, I was doing 5 hrs Minimum a day in my car.

Oh come on. I've been living in the Los Angeles area for 49 years. You learn to dodge the bullets. It's kinda like fishing without a net. I wouldn't live anyware but good ol California.

Izzy sure wasn't a dark horse 20-25 years ago.
Got a ton of pressure when they had their own world record craze up there.
Luckily the lake came back and most are now keeping their mouths shut about it.

All except Dick who called me one day from there tellin me he popped a 18# that day.

Hate the wind and the narrow canyon to get there, but it is a heck of a lake!
