Float tubing fun!

Post by L Dub »

So I recently purchased my first float tube! :D :D

How many people here float tube frequently? I'm looking for some people to head out with.

How many rods do you carry when on a float tube? I got a rod (3) holder to strap onto my tube. So I'm thinking I can carry 4.

What kind of set-ups are people using? I plan on having my 7' spinnerbait rod, 7' crankin, 6'6" finesse (Senko/ jig), and then...

Choices are 6'6" spinning for wacky rigs or another for DS. Or even a 6' for crankin but I'm more accurate with it.

???

I CAN'T wait to get on the water!!!

Its a blast. I carry 3 rods with me.

1. Senko
2. Crank bait
3. Jig

And bring extra lures to use like top water lures. Its alot of fun. If I'm not pre-fishing for a tourney, or doing one I always go float tubing. Where are you located, maybe I can tell you where some good ponds are. Rancho Seco is bad a$$, but it can be alot of work in a float tube. I always go out with at least one person for safety reasons. Its alot of fun when you hook in to a good fish on a tube. Those fish over 5 lbs will drag you around. Pack a lunch, and drinks, and spend the whole day floating around you will love it.

I use my friends float tube sometimes, like for the BnT open. They are a blast and the guys who fish them are laid back and cool. I will be fishing the next one out of a pontoon, right bryan! 8)

Be prepared to keep an eye on the wind and work with it as much as possible. ie...drift with it, get out, walk back to the spot that produced some fish and drift it again.

I would use a minimal amount of rods as they tend to get in the way if you have to many. When I tube and depending on where I usually have: a jig rod, swimbait rod and/or a senko rod.

Another thing I learned is that dragging a turd while fishing a jig works too.

Have fun!

I live in SF, but I get out almost every weekend for some fishing. I'm usually willing to drive an hour for moset spots. I love fishing Berryessa though, so I get out there as often as I can (when I have access to a boat).

So far my short list for tubing:

Shadow Cliffs, Chabot, Lafayette, Calero, Capell Cove @ Berryessa, anywhere on the Delta, Del Valle and Sonoma.

Hey L Dub,

If you want to fish with the baddest float tube/ Kickboat club, come check out the Sonoma County Belly Boat Bass Club or SCBBBC. We have monthly tourneys and meetings. Check out our site at www.SCBBBC.com, its a lot of fun.

PM me if you want more info.

yes I know J1...pretty crappy, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do when it takes awhile to kick to a certain spot. I try to keep it to a minimum, plus I have to put that two rod stamp to use

I won't lie to ya buddy, I do it too. :D

Why not get a couple extra fish on the dragged or deadsticked senko.

EDIT: Talking about fun fishing only here in case anyone thought otherwise. :D

I always wondered about trolling/ dragging a bait. Can you do that in a tourney?
