Got a letter from Merc offering me "product protection" on my 150 Optimax. It costs 871 for 1 year, 1306 for 2, and 1921 for 3. (USA dollar dollar bills y'all)
Do you guys get it these? I remember reading about Merc 2 stroke problems in the past. My motor is 1 year old. Light use, 15 to 20 times a year. I normally don't get these things but I'm tempted to get this one.

"I'm going out to fish," Simon Peter told them, and they said, "We'll go with you." So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
"OK guys, Who brought the banana?"

Call Mike Van Wagner at C & C Marine in Citrus Heights. I had the same issue with my 225 hp Opti after the power head blew and was repaired, thankfully, on Mercs dime. He recommended having Carbon fiber reeds installed. I do not know the technical specifications of why but I was told that these were a better insurance policy than what Merc offers. A full set of reeds ran me $600 installed on a 225. From what I recall Mike telling me, a reed will go before the power head blows. Replacing a reed will cost around $100 versus many thousand to get a new power head. The C&C number is on their ad on this website. Mike may even know of a Merc dealer closer to you to do the work.
