I have been thinking about taking some time off next year from tournament fishing, more specifically team tournament fishing with the wife. It seems that we can't break through anything other than mid pack, mostly due to me because she just fishes to hang out with me.
I have been thinking about spending next year on guided trips and pro ams to help me improve my skill level.
What do you all think?
Pondering taking some time off.
Re: Pondering taking some time off.
Time on the water will do you justice! Just try and get out there as much as possible and keep the wife in the back of the boat with you! You are lucky to have a wife who will fish tournaments with you, even if she is just hanging out most of the time. That means she approves of your sport!
Just get on the water as much as you can!

Doug... don't ever take her for granted, or resent her for the results you have been getting. Sounds like one in a million, and we can't all have our cake and eat it too. If you want to be recognized, go rob a bank... otherwise, there are too many people fishing out there to have more than 15 minutes of fame.

I wasn't trying to sound resentful of her because of the results. I realize that I am a very lucky man to have a wife who supports my habit and is right there to enjoy it with me.
I am just trying to figure out ways to get better.
I really only fish one lake exclusivley and that's Folsom. I am thinking that I need to get to more bodies of water more often than just once or twice a year.
I appreciate all your comments, it does help remind me of what a great partner I have in tournaments and in life.

Hey Dougie,
Keep fishing.... the more time on the water you get the better you get. Hey give me a call and I'll take you out on my water we can both exchange ideas. Since I've laid off the FPT for this year I've had alot of time to just fun fish and have been having a great time. I'm still fishing with the club and am learning alot. Give J a big hug for me and tell her to keep up the good work backing the boat in
You can PM me or get my # from BB.

I would also say to keep fishing and spending the time together... You can always take a guide trip here and there... Just my .02$

Doug, don't give up! Keep at it, and your time will come. More time on the water equals more success! I felt the same way after two bombs in the last two tourneys. But I just shaked it off, and I'm going right back in for round three. Don't question yourself, or your skill, just keep on trucking!!
