Where are all the big fish?

Post by JimmyReese »

No, I am not referring to Dobyns or K.B. I am curious on the big fish report in California. Usually by now (may) we've heard of an 18 or 20 lber being caught or snagged or photoshopped! Maybe MIGUEL LONG is sittin on one right now but it seems the big fish havn't happened yet! Maybe the low water year has an affect on everything or possibly something else, but I am curious how many fish have been caught this year over 15 pounds? Usually the So. Cal lakes have had a few by now!

my P.B. this year is 9.57
How about your guys? ( anybody over 9.57 cant play!)

Just havin fun!

Hey Tom,

Stay off my water

Great fish buddy.

My best this year was just under 10 at Clear Lake and one the same size at the Delta AC.

I had one at the Delta during the AC in April that was 12-13 pounds that broke all three of my split rings.

Hey Ricky -

Funny you should say that, It wasn't far from where I saw you last time on the water!

I think I caught it on a Purple shoestring attached to a giant bobber... I was drifting it down current near some tules or were those rocks.. not sure..... I'll remember more on Sunday! :)

Are you coming up for the event this weekend? or holding off for Stren next week?

That's funny Tom.

No AC Delta for me this week. The wife said that I couldn't go this weekend because I needed to stay home and play with her for a couple days.

Plus I am working to get my 2008 boat ordered and the 2006 to its new owner. I'll be up on Wednesday next week.

Well so far every body except moreau, stock option, and myself have been DQ'd. 8) 8) and Tom there is no way that fish is 10-2...................... Did you weigh that fish on a bathroom scale or what? I think you added the weight of your shoes on that one! If you take your shoes off before setting the scale, you must then stay "shoeless" when getting back on the scale! Good luck this week Tom!

and Big Daddy, that is an impressive photo !!! and mike, that bass might be 9 as well! hmmmm.......I think my scale is wrong.... :x
Ricky I heard that fish was every-bit of 12 or 13, according to M.T. if you know what I mean.....Were you throwing braid when you lost her? Curious!

Jimmy,

your not fishing in the right area! j/k I've seen;

1 ~~ 18
1 ~~ 16
2 ~~ 14
12 ~~ 13
Lost count on 10, 11, 12lbs fish.
even more just under 10lbs

my best this year is 12.65lbs

I've lost 3 fish in there teens this year, and sat on two that were 15+

ask to see Shawn R, He got an 18lbs a week ago

FIshing is always good at Clear Lake - but, you should be asking Jimmy - not me!

In November it'll be the fall bite.. jigs and cranks... and the famous Sieg Taylor rip trap! They always eat the senko and the drop shot as well!

Hey Jimmy,

It is all of 10.2... I even took it with me to Extreme Outdoorsman in order to buy a scale just so I could weigh it. I lost my cul-m-rite when I was taking your money last year on the Wednesday night tournaments!

Maybe its a bad angle on the picture... Does it look 10.2 in this picture?

Yes the fish was released alive.. Rejuvenaded and aerorated all day as well.. This fish went back in the water stronger than it was before I caught her. Lastly, she was beat to hell in her face though... and that wasn't from my bait! Wierd.. Looks like she got beat up defending her nest or whatever... she was post spawn. She was probably 12 a couple weeks ago!!! BIG OLE HEAD!

And I specifically took these pictures nowhere near where I caught the fish... so don't try guessing!

Wow Mike I thought that you were taller than that. That fish goes from 6 inches over your head to the middle of your thigh. Are you sure there is not something wrong with your scale.
If you are 6 feet tall that fish has to be 4 feet long and a new world record.
Im just poking fun at all of those people who criticize how we hold our fish when we photograph them :D :D :D :D :D
Hang in there its a great fish

Yep Jimmy

Post by Ricky-S »

That darn braid has cost me big time. I think it was more the fact that I had failed to upgrade the slitrings and hooks on the bait that I was using.

I had always heard of big fish straightening hooks and splitrings and that was a first (and last) for me.

Jimmy,

The big ones are in San Diego like always. People are probably just hiding it better this year. In Nor-Cal we're stuck on the 15-18lbers. Hopefully if we keep releasing them we'll get some 20's some day. I think it's the colder winter time temps that keep us from getting the really grande sized ones though.

Hey Billy I am proud of my 9.57..  .....And if I hadn't weighed her she was every bit of 11...

Slayer that is a great photo, awesome fish! Mike your other photos are a little more justifying than the original, besides throwing out Chris Jones name just wasn't fair! :D

and TOM..................9.2 at best!!!!!!!! It looks like you played arena football with that thing!!!
Straightline where did you catch that fish( lake?) she's a bute!
That fish is totally differant shape vs slayers......

15 pounders.....I think I need to fish other lakes. Clearlake, Delta, shasta, oroville, mead, havaclue, just aint cuttin it!
but back to the point....I think you are right about one thing, I bet more people are hush- hush this year after going back a year later to there home lakes and seeing a fleet of boats surrounding the bigguns!!! S.D. lakes do rock! But there so small..
You know Tom I just took another look at your photo and I know your on the delta right now and you cant defend yourself but,....That fish looks like its maybe 71/2........... And Big daddy that photo is just plain sick!

GO WARRIORS!!!

wooch, if you mean basically being my first time in a float tube and the only fish I have ever caught from a float tube...then yes!

What a scary moment...a giant money fish just shaking right in front of me waiting for me to lip her, although I had no real idea how I was going to do it. I let out a big bass battle cry after I landed her. 8)
