swim bait extra heavy retractable butt (telescopic) 7'6"

Post by Lancer »

Does anyone make one ??? i really like the 7' 6" okuma or the 7' 11" okuma but they suck to store and lug around on a 17' boat are there any options out there for a retractable butt section rod that can handle 3-6 oz swimbaits ??? i use my MH flippin stick and its not enough but it retracts making it easy to store and put in a rod locker.

AM i asking too much ? am i being too picky ??

thanks in advance - LAncer

As far as I know, I cannot think of one that is telescopic.

Is there anyway way of modifying your rod locker at the end of it to make more room. I was able to do this with my 18' Tracker and can now fit my 7'6 and 7'9 swimbait rods.

Hey Lancer, unfortunately there are no mass production rods that fit the bill. Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas offer Musky rods that may work, however it may not be of equal quality to an Okuma. The only route I know of is to have one custom built by Performance Tackle. It's not cheap, but it's well worth it. Marc (rod maker) says it's best suited for an 8" triple trout (weight-wise) or smaller, however, in my opion, it will handle a hudd. Anything heavier is pushing it. Give them a call 714-826-1400. Good luck!

Hey Lancer.. I would be hesitant to have a telescopic while hucking a 6oz bait around. I have two 7'11"s, and I hate to lug them around even on a 20 ft boat, because my partner has to deal with them pointing right at them- However, the length is for the cast, and I don't think I could compromise that with a shorter rod. Maybe if you are carrying them around, you can figure out a way to fasten them in between both of you so that you grab it on the way up to the bow to throw. I wonder what Gary's 8'6" casts like!!

I know of a telescopic stick that will handle swimbaits up to about 4 to 4.5 ounces, but I don't think you're going to like the price tag.

It's the "Megabass F7-78DG Super Destruction" and retails for about $425...

One rod I like that will throw most of the lighter swiumbaits is the G Loomis FXR904X IMX FLippin Stick. It has a retractable butt and is 7'6" and stout. Might be close to what you want.
