VanDam and G-ville shad....

Post by Shad*Wizard »

Enjoyed watching the top guys at G-ville keying in on the shad spawn yesterday on Bassmasters...Read about all of them and how they patterned that bite at BassFan, and found it very interesting to watch...VanDam mentioned it didn't take him long to get on "that program"...

Now is the time on the California Delta when the big Jumbo shad run the banks to spawn...The warmer the weather, the more chance for an early morning spawn...Probably the greatest place to see it is up by Weber Park in downtown Stockton...The Shad Rats usually sit with dip nets and wait for large schools to run into their nets and then run to sell them to the bait shops, commer- cially...

The spawn only lasts from the crack of light till say about 8:30 a.m. Then they go deep...The G-ville guys keyed in on that, too...As the sun got higher, the shad went deeper...One even keyed in on "big shad"...Most threw spinnerbaits...Some guys even take spinnerbaits and reel them along the banks and create a small shad run right into their nets in Stockton...Those spawners can run up to 5-6 inches...

These Pros don't only try to figure out the bass, they're watching the bait too...Iaconelli's made some interesting statements too, on threadfins...Info only a shadder would know...He's made important statements about current and muddy water, and how threadfins relate...These guys are sharp...They push the envelope...Think shad...
