motor trim noise excessive?

Post by backlash »

I've got a 150 Mercury Optimax. Though not too noticable in the water but very loud on the trailer is a screeching noise when raising or lowering the motor. How normal might this be? Anything mainetance wise I'm neglecting? thanks.

I have had noise problems in the past with mine, I dont know if this will help but i lubed the two pistons where they make contact to the motor. Just a bit of lube on the very end of the piston.

backlash,
As slippy said, add some grease to the piston ends where they ride on the motor mount; thats whats making that horrible sound. Add the grease, and the noise will immediately go away and the tilt/trim will work smoother too!

Don't forget to grease the pivot where it tilts also. There is a zerk on the front center of the pivot that needs grease from time to time.
