X85 sonar question

Post by BruceB »

I have an X85 sonar mounted on the bow of my boat and lately it's been acting strange. When I turn it on it's almost impossible to see the screen as it's very faint. Sometimes this doesn't change, sometimes it seems to warm up or whatever and act normally after some time. Nothing obvious is wrong (loose wires or otherwise) - any ideas or is it on it's last legs? Thanks!

You can call Lowrance and ask for their tech support and they can help you. They have an 800 # and back east. Had problem before on mine and they help clear it up.

Last time out I had the same thing happen with my Eagle 2000C (Lowrance LCX-28C). I recycled it a couple times and it came up fine. Worked great rest of the day.

the X-85 is a little outdated.. if you send it in to lowrance they'll probably give you credit towards a newer model,, which means you'll need a new tranducer as well.... If you really like the X-85, I think I still have two sitting on a shelf and would be willing to sell em pretty cheap.

I'm sure the X85 is an antique by now and to be honest I'm not very good at using sonar at all. Any suggestions for an upgrade? I'm a casual angler so don't need the fanciest system but would like something decent. Sounds like it's worth getting something new rather than struggling with a dodgy and outdated unit.

Thanks,

Get yourself an X-125. You might even be able to use the same transducer. It should suit any needs you have for finding bottom, locating structure, and even seeing fish.

Try calling lowrance tech support first. Maybe they can clear up your problem before you go out and spend tht $$$$ for anew one.
Since your a casual fisherman, you can buy a basic one around $100. Lowrance has an 800 # so phone call is free.
