$$$ Lake Mead Classic $$$

Post by Vern »

Well the final details have been worked out, So I can finnaly announce the Date of the Lake Mead Classic. The date will be Friday August 24 and Saturday August 25. Sign up for the tournament will be Thursday August 23 at Bass Pro Shop from 3PM until 6Pm. The tournament will be at Lake Mead out of Callville Bay.

This year as always we are having a Gaurnteed %100+ payback. Last year we payed back over $1,2000 over entry fees. That is actual pay back. That is not figuring list on the boat.
Again this year first place will be gaurnteed a boat. We willl have the raffel same as last year where we gave out over $1,0000 in product. The only change will be the raffel will be Thursday night at the sign up as to make the award ceremony shorter.
The basic entry fee is $300 with $100 worth of options. Everything is gaurnteed 100%+ payback. There will be drawings for $500 and two $250 cash prizes and a House Boat Vacation valued at over $2000 at the award ceremony at Callville Saturday right after the tournament You must be present to win the draw prizes.

You must be a member of Anglers Choice to fish the tournament.

The sponsors for this year tournament are.

Bass Pro Shops
Nitro Boats
Forever Resorts
Legend Boats
B&E Towing
Siena Suites
Hootters Power Drink
Smart Rate Direct
Markeys Baits
Laker Plaza

There probably will be more to be added. With sponsors like these
that is the reason why for the past three years the Lake Mead Classic has grown onto the highest paying Team Tournament in the West.
More information will be posted soon.
For any questions contact Vern Price.

What's first place? A boat? I fished the first one but I cannot remember what you gave away.

Yes first place will be gaurnteed a boat. It looks like it will be a 20ft Nitro. Probably a 898 with a 150 optimax.
The first year we had the tournament it was small. We gave away cash. But the last two years we have had over 100 boats. With the sponsors putting in so much money. We can gaurntee first place a boat. You can go to the Anglers Choice web site and look at last years pay outs. Believe me no team tournament can match it. Vern

Vern,
I think that you would get more boats if you made it Saturday-Sunday verses Friday-Saturday.

The launch ramp willl be in better shape then. Randy Roundtree from Callville is one of the sponaors. He said that they will have it in better shape then, to take care of the Classic and the US Open.

To let you know I was on the water yesterday (Memorial Day Weekend) The wait to get your boat in or out of the water at noon was 10 minutes. The park service was there and every thing was smooth.

Hey LV Ba$$ Come watch me back my boat in tomarrow. You might have trouble finding it its called " Put in Bay" that little lake up north of ya called Erie . I keep comming close to that world record smallmouth but just too many dam 5 to 7 pounders beating the big fish to the bait. So keep dinking around on Mead Son but hell I did win one on Mead this year by myself with 16.98.

If anyone ought to have all the now how in the world on how to back a boat in the water it ought to be you Dave since you dont even own a boat. So I quess I wont be seein ya at the boat ramp tomarrow. As far as the world record smallie goes thats if someone in Idaho doesnt beat me to it first. But then again you wouldnt know anything about that because you never been any where else except Mead,Mojave or maybe a few times on Havasu. :P :P Your not quite really to handle Erie as well as a bass boat yet, so Stick to drop shottin behind old man Webster and you'll be alright.

Hey George anytime buddy. Sorry I ran the tides all wrong on the first day hurt both of us. Not to mention the two big ones that I lost on top water.

I ran the same spots in reverse order and things got pretty sick and I landed everything that bit.

Sorry that you weren't with me on day two or three.

Those are the breaks. I see you also got a check-great job!

PS-the weather at lake mead is always unpredictable.

George....

you can count on it being warm!!! ok, flat out hot!!! Mead can be unpredictable, but the summer is usually just hot.....we don't get the major winds that you see in the spring and fall....we do get the monsoons......and that would be the only thing that I could see being unpredictable.....count on a ton of boat traffic (it is the last weekend before school starts out here).....and low water conditions.......go ahead and fire more questions as it gets closer....I will be around....I hope I can fish it....that is the first week back to school for me (teacher), so that is a tough Friday to take off.....I wish it were Sat and Sun too.....it is still an awesome tourney.....good luck

I have had several anglers ask what the actual payback was for the classic last year. If you figure list price on the boat plus the $2000 in cash drawings which dosen't show on the results it came to 158%. That is not counting $10,000 in product that we raffelled off. All that for a $400 tournamentisn't bad. Vern

Hey Vern,

What would it take to make this tournament on Saturday and Sunday verses Friday and Saturday.

Us working stiffs can't afford to keep taking weekdays off and expect to have a job when we get back.

What's the thought behind the Friday/Saturday?

Hey Ricky - I am not behind the Friday/Saturday thing... I am 50/50 on whether I like it or not. I know it allows the anglers a chance to spend a day at home with the family... and or travel home.

Hey Tom,
I understand the idea/concept behind the Fri/Sat event, but I would imagine all of us that work for someone (not self employed) would much rather fish a weekend event.

I just wonder how many guys are being left out who are maxed out on vacation time or merely devoted weekend warriors. I just wonder what type of feedback you all have received on the Fri/Sat events?

Either way, I'm all in. You guys know how to throw a good tournament.

Thanks Ricky... I agree the Sat Sun would probably get a few more anglers... guys take off on Thursday night after work pre-fish on Friday and then fish the event Sat and Sun... makes sense to me. Not sure what the deal is with Fri-Sat events... but, I know that was one of the reason.

I look forward to this event every year. Should be fun. Vern does an outstanding job on this event every year! Bass Pro and the rest of the sponsors step up big for this event! I'm getting Vern some Volume so he'll slow down a little on the mic this year.... man Vern sure can talk fast.... :)

Hey Tom, I disagree.
No valum please. It will just prolong his award speaches even longer. Can you imagine Vern at half speed. LOL. Just keep the margaritas away from him and give him a few dbl shots of expresso, that should help wind him up to help get thru the long list of sponsors !!!!

Tom Ricky & Randy I believe that Verns exact words 2 years ago were " I dont run any tournaments on Sunday & I will not do it" But Im sure Mr. Price will correct me if Im wrong. I also believe it was called the Laker Plaza Open the first year but I could also be again mistaken. Maybe you remember Randy im not really sure.

Well in case this is turning into a poll, I'm gonna call for Friday/Saturday. I've got family/church obligations on Sundays so I'd probably not fish if it went into Sunday. BTW, I do seem to remember Vern saying no Ts on Sundays.

I am going to settle the date debate. When we decided to do a two day tournament we talked to the anglers most of them liked the Friday Saturday format so they could have a day to drive home, before they had to go to work Monday. Last year we had teams come from as far as Arkansas.
The date this year cannot be changed because the permit has been pulled.
At the tournament this year we will have a vote, to which days we will do it next year.
As for as the award ceremony taking so long I agree. So this year we are going to have the Raffell at Bass Pro the night of the sign up. We are having sign up from 3PM until 6PM. At 6PM we will do the raffell, then the draw for position. You will be out of Bass Pro before 7PM.
Saturday after the tournament we will have the award ceremony at Callville where they are going to serve a free lunch. We are planning to start the award ceremony 45 minutes after the last boat has weighed in. It will only last about 30 minutes .

For those that can't make the tournament because it is Friday & Saturday I am sorry. Will check out doing it Saturday & Sunday next year, we let the anglers decide as always.

I don't know of any team tournament that has a $400 entry fee counting options that pays back the percentage that we do.

I like the long awards deal, it gives one a lot of time to chat with people that you don't get to chat with, too often. And Vern's Raffle is always worth sticking around for!

Hello, my name is Lisa and I am Carl's wife. Just wanted to give an update on Carl. He is still in the hospital and we hope to have him released soon. He wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and visits and just wanted to let everyone know that he does not have the big "C". He has a blood disorder that they are trying to get under control, which from all the treatment caused him to get a blood clot.

So, thank you again and he hopes to see all of you soon on the lake!!!

James - Vern can run events whatever days he wants... he's among the best and he can count me in anytime. As far as the Laker Plaza Open... I am not sure - I didn't fish it the first year... but, the last 2 have been a blast! I know Laker Plaza is still involved and I always get my gas and all my drinks and other ins and outs there anytime I go fishing at Lake Mead - because he is so supportive of bass fishing.

Vern - I guess I could call you about this.. but, I kinda agree with Murph... The Raffle at the awards on Saturday is a great time to chat with people you don't see too often.... especially since it is on Saturday night and most of our day is shot anyway after 8 hours on Lake Mead in 120 degrees... Not like I am going to race home and go on a date! In fact, I have met some of my favorite "fishing friends" while fishing your circuit or the Lake Mead Classic... you have a great group of anglers down there that are all very friendly and fun to talk to.

Also - A couple things to think about for the raffle -

#1 - The night before the tournament everyone has 100 things to do... like prep the boat, get lunch for the next day.. re line roads, tie on baits, put together a plan, etc. etc.. I'd much rather sit around for a couple hours after the event and enjoy talking to everyone and harassing you while you do the raffle....... Maybe 1/2 at Bass Pro and 1/2 at Calville would be a good idea? Just my .02 -- It's your show I'll be happy with whatever you think is best!

#2 - The people who win stuff at Bass Pro Shops are going to just walk out of there with it? Yikes... Bass Pro has some serious trust! Not that any of us would ever steal... but, it sure would make it tough on security for BPS.

Murph - good point! I agree What do you think of the GloryBags?
I love mine... Put them to use a lot lately. it is so nice not having to fight with the fish in the livewell all day long!

Great to hear it's not the big "C"!! Give Carl my best and I hope he's feeling better and back out on the water soon!

Tell him he's got plenty of time to get ready for the Classic... Hope to see him there feeling 100% and ready to go out with James and catch some Lake Mead Lunkers!

Hey Tom, I'm liking the Glory Bags just fine. Though I would like to see them in at least 2 sizes. A bag about 1/2 the size would fit a lot of my fish just right. heh heh!

First JR and myself went to see Carl Tuesday. He looked great and was in great spirits.Told us that there was know Cancer. was expecting on getting out of the Hospital friday, was going to spend a week at Home and then going to Scripps in san Diego to find out what was wrong.

Second about the raffell last year it took 6 hours to do the raffell and the awards ceremony. We decided to do it at Bass Pro Shop so it would take less time. The biggest time consuming was selling the tickets.
So this year you can buy the tickets while you are siging up. At 6PM we will quit selling them and start the raffell. You will be out by seven. As for Bass Pro all prizes will be tagged so you can walk out the door with them.

Third there will be a raffell at the award ceremony that you have to be present to win. It will be a free raffell. Prises include House boat Vacation (donated by Forever Resorts) cash draws $500, $250, $250. The list will grow as we are just now getting in touch with some sponsors.

As usual OKUMA will be a major product sponsor.

Last the first year that I put this tournament on we only had two sponsors for that tournament Laker Paza, and Al Farrah from SmartRate direct. It was called the Laker Plaza Team Open. It was put on to thank the anglers for supporting me my first year as a director.
Then it grew into what it is today The Lake Mead Classic the last two years we have had over 100 boats and expect the same this year. It is a tournament for the grass roots fishermen that want to fish a high profile tournament for a great pay out for a minimal entry fee.
