Motorguide or Minn kota

Post by DeltaBound »

I am beggining to hate  the Gator mount on my Motorguide 101 Tour. It gets stuck alot and the last time I could not get it stowed. I had to remove the trollingmotor so I could put the boat back on the trailer. I am seriously thinking about biting the bullet and buying a Minn Kota pro max. I value all of your opinions and I know they're both good motors, I just don't like the Gator Mount.

thanks...

Kind of expensive to switch because of...

The mount I would think? Have you tried any lubrication on the mechanism. You have the top of the line motor guide but in all honesty my friends at Clearlake have had different issues but with the motor guide mount as well. We had to stop the boat and beat the pins that are press fit into that unit back in with a hammer or the whole shebang would have flown off the boat. I like the softstart of the minnkota but have not switched from my minnkoto as I would have to make a custom bracket so that I wouldn't have to drill any new holes in the glass. Not a problem for me to fabricate anything as I'm a machinist...I just don't like drilling on the boat  .

Minn Kota !!! I have had three motor guides and had nothing but problems . Since I purchased my Minn Kota 101 about three years ago I have yet to have a problem . I am pretty hard on the trolling moter , sticks , weeds , even an occasional rock and am real impressed on the durability .

From what I understand the holes should line up between the Minn Kota max Pro 101 and Motorguide Tour's gator mount.

I have had both. I much prefer the Minn Kota, especially the assisted mount! I have long left the Motorguide jiggle jiggle noise that it loves to make when you release the motor button! Also, I don't miss the HUMPF I had to do in order for the lock to release when lifting the trolling motor.

Max-pro 101 all the way. Power assist lift and soft start are unbeatable. It just takes a few trips to train your foot to go to the other side for the "go" button.

Have had both and suggest Minn Kota all the way, personally a lot less problems, and seems to me it runs much more quiet, cuts through weeds, and handles abuse.
