Do I have a problem?

Post by shifterpilot2001 »

I was going through all my tackle the other day before a tournament.... and after I was all done and had to decide what to put on the boat.... so I loaded the boat with all that is below.... My question is this.... Do most of you tournament anglers carry this much on tournament day? Is it too much... not enough... lol...Does it stay in your boat anyway? I mean afterall you never know what your gonna want to throw... right? :) Does anyone else hide their tackle from their GF's or wives.... lol.... DO I HAVE A PROBLEM?

I would say, that most of our boats, are just Giant Floating Tackle Boxes!
It might be lonely at the Top, but it's a bitch, at the Bottom !

The table would not hold the tackle I carry. The boat stays loaded and spares in my truck.

I have ridden in Dewaynes boat, I thought he had just robbed the Hook, Line and Sinker and maybe Extreme Outdooors before the event..Did he have a problen, not that I noticed, he caught fish..
I have yet to walk into and out of a tackle shop having spent less than $20 and by far and away most of the time I spend three times that much or more..

I carry one tackle bag with me when I go fishing.

It weighs just over 200lbs and is on wheels but it's just "one" bag.

I gave up worrying about this obsession....I just make sure I have my money for my dealer each week (TackleWarehouse) and accept my weakness and move on    I also make sure I take the wife fishing frequently....that way I can SAFELY get two of everything...ohhh yeah !!!

Where's all the bags from the 17 different local tackle shops? you're way to organized Dude!

Problem? It all depends on you. One of my buddies, a top Pro, carries his stuff in a mix of brown and white grocery bags. It's always an adventure going into one of his bags for a bait... kinda like reaching into a bag full of halloween candy only with treble hooks!

And No - you never, Never, NEVER have enough tackle. Hell I think I put half the tackle shop owner's kids through college around Clearlake.

Mike, I was thinking the same thing. You know life is good when you have the confidence to leave those boxes on the table and only take 2 baits in the boat for a tournament. So far, that has only happened to me twice but it sure is a good feeling....I think my boat went about 5mph faster.....

You know that you have too much tackle when you don't have any room for the fire extinguisher, paddle, throw flotation, sunscreen. I took a friend fishing last week to Clear Lake, he brought 2 huge tackle bags and 15 rods. We threw Frogs all day, he only used one rod. Us fisherman are Sick, we can never have enought stuff. I have seen guys with Float Tubes with more tackle than what is on your table.

I am trying to refrain from stopping at tackle shops because everytime I walk in I drop a C Note  .......or 2

If that's all you got... you aint caught the sickness yet.

Problem/Obsession?? I think not, I have been backseating for about a year (boat problems) and I usually carry 7-8 rods and a Cabelas Pro Tourny bag. The bag holds12 boxes and all the soft plastic I can stuff in the pockets. Whenever I buy something and my significant other asks me why, I have a very simple answer. Fishing gear is cheaper than a mistress.

I find it amazing

Post by ash »

At the end of Last year I really started to cull down what I bring with me. I fish as a boater and non boater, it is amazing as a non boater I have a small 2'x13" tackle bag that I bring along with a folder of worms.

I really think about the lake that I am fishing and what my goal or job is and will bring baits that I only have the utmost confidence in, and it works for me!

In tournaments I have started to do the same, limiting what I bring by storing lake stuff in one set of boxes and river\clear lake stuff in another. I still leave some funky stuff always in the boat. The reason being is that I can focus on what I know works, cause during a tournament isnt the time for me to "figure out the bite" anymore my tackle is becoming smaller and smaller keeping my bread and butter stuff and some new funky stuff but I dont need all the stuff all the time.

This really helps me when I am fishing because I am find myself thinking more about fish location and presenation then about color or what if I tie on this and that. I believe if I can get my bait in front of the fish, then I can get him in da boat....well that is at least my thinking!

$20? $20? you actually ONLY spent $20 once? what was wrong with you? if it ain't near a c-note, then you haven't spent enough.
and that's just for the weekly trip. then there are those trips to the tackle store where you spend "real" money. :D :D

Wow.... I can see I am going to be in trouble if what I have isnt enough.....lol.... thanks for all the great replies.... my boat is 20'8" with what I thought was alot of storage.....you guys that say you have that much in one compartment? Do you fish out of the Clearlake Queen or what? That image is 30 plano boxes... takes up two and a half of my compartments...guess its time to turn the rod locker that my partner uses into mine again.... lol....

Mike Phua... thats funny right there.... lol.... was laughing my a.. off when I read that....

Bob Simard.... right up till this last weekend thats how I did it... I had about 30 bags of different sh.. from different stores all over the place... felt like I was losing alot of time during tourney so I organized... seemed much better

Wooch.... I would say that the group thing probably sounds like a great idea.... but being new to this scene I am seeing it is pretty tight lipped with tournament anglers, maybe in time when my results are always in the upper 33 percent of the field, instead of all over the place...lol... so for now i will continue putting in my time on the water, and hell... I will continue to share my info with others when I have found them....I shared a little info with StockOption sometime last year through a PM and now we have pm's back and forth now and then.... BTW Stock... we need to hook up sometime soon and go out and enjoy the great fishing while listening to that hard music we like....

to eveyone else... thanks for the replies

When I sold my boat I was amazed at the stuff I pulled out of there. Now the guy I fish with every week limits me to 7 or 8 rods and one huge tackle bag. Trouble is, I am reaching the age where lifting the bag in and out of the boat is a problem. those plastics are heavy and I love plastics. I cull that bag all the time but it does not seem to help. Oh well...such is life.

Don't Sweat The Small Stuff...

Post by Marc »

...you should see my collection. I've worked on it for 45 years. The good news is that I don't have to go to tackle stores anymore. In fact, they call me when they run out of stuff.

You know you have a lot when instead of buying some of the new stuff you simply dig deeper and find the old stuff that is now being called the new stuff.

When my wife asks why I have so much I just smile and say that you never know when something may come back in style.

BTW, don't ever question anything the wife wants to buy...just tell her she deserves it and can have it (and then go out and make enough money to afford what she wants). That way you will never get questioned about your addiction to tackle.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
