First of all I am new to bass fishing (almost 1 year with boat and loving it) and Western Bass has been awesome and very helpful!!! My question is what is better for each application or is it just preference? I have been using 7 foot, MH rods, both spinning and casting gear for each technique (Wacky and Texas-rigged Senkos) and was wondering if one was better than the other?
If so why?
Thanks again,
Marty
Wacky and T-rig senkos (spinning vs casting)???

Re: Wacky and T-rig senkos (spinning vs casting)???
i generally fish baitcasters for both t-rig and wacky senkos of 5" or larger. i think the 4 " ones are easier on a spinning rig --- but one that is lighter than mh. the reason for the baicaster is that it is generally easier to be more accurate with it. i like the spinning rig for the light senkos cuz they are easier to cast then (better distance but less accuracy)Marty Anderson wrote:First of all I am new to bass fishing (almost 1 year with boat and loving it) and Western Bass has been awesome and very helpful!!! Baitcasing
Why? No line twist and more control. The ONLY time I would use a spinning....going under docks. Its alot easyier to skip with spinning.
Good Luck, L

Re: Wacky and T-rig senkos (spinning vs casting)???
Those are good points. Will the wacky senko have less line twist than the t-rig for skipping under docks with spinning gear, or are they about the same?
Thanks again

Re: Wacky and T-rig senkos (spinning vs casting)???
Marty that depends on several things, your line can twist depending on the line and tackle you use to throw the line. Here is what I do, if I'm some place where the Senko bite is on I will have three rods rigged and ready to roll. I will have a 6 ft 6 Med Hvy spin rod spooled with 8lb Floral wacky style for open water casting with a 5 inch Senko of your choice. I will have two bait caster rigged up, one 7 ft Heavy action spooled with 50 pound braid Texas style for pitching big 6 and 7 inch Senkos in heavy cover like opening in tulles etc. I also will have one 6 ft 6 Med Hvy bait caster rigged up with 15 pound mono wacky style for pitching 5-6 inch Senkos on the outer weed line and to the front of tulles, dock, structure etc. I hope this gives you a better idea..Keep in mind that this is just what I do, be open to others ideas as well...

I PREFER USING A SPINNING ROD WHEN FISHING WACKY OR TEXAS I PREFER THE SENSITIVITY IN THE SPINNING ROD BUT THATS JUST ME
You never listen to Obi-Won!!
Texas rig on baitcasting. Allows for heavier line and larger hooks.
Wacky rig on spinning. Allows for lighter line and smaller hooks.

Re: Wacky and T-rig senkos (spinning vs casting)???
I have a spinner (GLoomis IMX SJR 843/Okuma V30) & a baitcaster (Rogue 704 GH/Revo STX)Lance wrote:Marty

rigged for texas weightless 5" senko -(4/0 EGW). The spinning gear is awesome for skipping under things (docks, limbs, etc...) & that's been a good bite. I use the Rogue around tules, rocks, etc. I use 30# braid with a 15# fluoro leader (dbl. uni knot) on both rods.
Duly noted that there will be 'line drama' with spinning gear, but a little attn. to detail & a tad of preparation can avoid most of that. For those 'knotty' problems, I carry a spare spool.
I have no preference -both rods are sensitive & powerful enough. Which one I use just depends on the job at hand.
It's just a beating.....till you fight back.
