Ken Lake Fork

Post by TopH2o »

Hey Ken Ive fished all those lakes in Texas from Rayburn , Lake of the Pines, Caddo, Ray Roberts and besides the Cali Delta I would never want to fish any of these over sized fish aquariums in Cali over any real bass lake in Texas.Texas adds a whole new meaning to the words cover & structure. These guys out here dont have a clue dude dont let them get to ya. If TX had the same climate zone as Cali there be 30 pounders swimming around. I wounder if Mr Grover could run a bass boat through the Black forest on Big Sam or Toledo Bend. "NOT"....., Hey Rick it be a little different then DVL Lake. Trust me

Would love to Fish Texas some day, and if I was going to fish Tournaments for a living, I would either move to Texas or Alabama. I have spent lots of time on Table Rock and Bull Shoals in the Okarks and get around those ponds just fine thanks. Yes they are different than DVL, but the people East of California are all just learning that our big fish techniques are working everywhere. Give Mike Long or John Kerr or Jerry Rago a Month on Fork and IMHO they would own the place. Of the 4 good Texas tournament fishermen I can think of, 3 are form Calif. Klein, Yelas, Niggemeyer, all ex Westcoasters and the other being current Texan Kelly Jordan. I'm sure Texas has its share of GREAT sticks, but if you can Get-em on our small, high traffic lakes you can Get-em anywhere. Relax, its all in fun. Rick G.

Cal...for all its complaints from all that live here, "An Aquarium" not one Ive heard. Biggest problem maybe be over crowding with all the texans moving here,lol..Yea..and from the way some people measure (and weigh) 30lbs not out of the question, but for how many fish,lol....As far as Rick G...Im pretty sure he cashed checks in nearly (maybe all) lakes and rivers he drowned bait in..Can you say same Top agua? Just playin with ya sir...Ohh by the way...there have been a "few" sticks from this "not have a clue state" Charlie

Dont worry Ya'll, he's a sore LOSER, James Loser that is! :D :D :D :D

We all know Cali is the Bomb, why are so many of the close to world records coming from there? Ask Shaun Bailey, he'll tell ya Casitas has it in her along with all the other trout infested waters.

Quit picking on everything and everyone James!

Youre right James I havent done anything in the Bass Fishing world! I fish teams for fun. You, well you.....not even worth it Top-to-the-WATER! Just cant stand by why you passively agressively bash the world.

Congrats on your win ya finally got a check huh? :D :D

Why is there such a problem with Cal. ppl and Texas ppl can't we all get along. There are good Bass waters all over like Fl. and Mexico too. Yes the biggest bass was caught in Cal. but lets all be thankful that we are free and able to fish where ever we want. Some people don't even have that pleasure. :)

Amen Ken! I live in Nevada and dont even fish half of the lakes I can only dream of in Ca, Tx or where ever. They all have their niche if theres a bass that swims there. I am just disgusted by people talking out of their turd cutter.

Wow Top H20 , you really know how to stir the pot . Har . I love you man ! You rebal you . As for the fishing ? We may have some pigs in our waters but I would trade pigs for hospitality and piece of mind any day . Fishing lakes with miles of structure and shoreline with no lake lice and my rig getting bashed in over populated parking lots sounds great to me . I have been thinking about the move for a couple years now . H20 , give me a call sometime .

I'll give you that - the hospitality in Texas is second only to my hometown in FL (but I am biased). Where else could you go somewhere looking for directions and have the person drive you there?? Not in Cali by a LONG SHOT. I love the fishing, I love my friends but I would love to live in Texas or my hometown again!!

Woulda coulda shoulda- classic- do you guys have 10 pound spots and 9+ pound smallies in Texas?

I wouldn't mind moving there, but don't pretend you're the top dog. Fight with Florida for state #3. Hey, you're up there in the top 5. Alabama is knocking on your door. Have George W buy you a real baseball team and bring back the Cowboys' cheerleaders.

Have fun with your Guadalupe bass and good luck on the 30+, Sammy Sosa is in your yard and he probably has extra HGH, feed it to the Lake fork fish. See you guys later.

Like I said, friendlier people in Texas. Don't believe we claimed to be top dog and we already have enough of those attitudes in Texas, stay out there with your 10 pound spots and 9+ smallies and we'll keep our small fish and low traffic, few jet flee lakes to ourselves. (said as courteously as possible! LOL)

No real dog in this fight ( well maybe a Chihuahua), however, I have also enjoyed fishing many of the lakes here (for 3 years now) and some of the Texas lakes, especially Rayburn. Good bass fishing here, good bass fishing there. The biggest difference (to me) is that you could fit 28 Diamond valley lakes into the size of Rayburn, and the fact I have just purchased 2 of THE most beautifully wooded acres, 1.5 miles from one of the main boat ramps on Rayburn, for $4 GRAND. LMAO. Top that!!!!LOL

No speed limits, here I come, lol

Rayburn is my all time favorite lake. Usually fish there 12 or 14 days a month, sometimes more, and I bought 3 lots about 10 minutes from where all the major tourney's go out of with water, sewer and electricity already there for $1000.00 a lot!! No ski boats, or at least rare and once away from the dam there's none, no jet ski's, no cigarette boats, just fishing, year round with no speed limits. Corp of Engineer lake so there is also no boat docks either!

Like I said before. . . Cal has the biggest bass around.. :) But can not compare bass fishing.. In Cal. There are Rocks and Jet ski's, and ski boats. Open water fishing and hump fishing. In Texas no ski boats, no jet skis, just fishing. In Lake Fork there are no spots, no smalmouths, and no strippers. Just bass and crappie. Between standing timber and grasses, docks and underground forrest. It is just a different kind of fishing. There is prob. no way you could get a 20 pound bass out of the trees and stumps here they would just wrap you around in a sec. You can lose 100$ very quick in trees if your not careful. This message might strike up some replys but this is why I wrote it.... Good luck on the water...

Ken, you may as well give up now. You have the 2 biggest mouths in Ca. talking now and neither one of them could catch a fish if they wanted to! It also shows their intelligence levels when they start talking trash about Texas ribs, and at least one of them already weighs 300lbs! Reese, there's only one thing I eat without cooking and I heard Dobyns call you that the other day! Choke, Amistad, Rayburn or Fork will hold there on with those mud puddles y'all have out there any day, I guess we're gonna have to start feeding the fish in some of our farm ponds around here and "raise" some 20lb bass too. Our farm ponds are bigger than your lakes! Now shoot back! (I will help pack out the whitetail, though!)

Oh and I have to ask, when did you guys get PC's in texas? 8) Silicon valley must have mis shipped there product, or the train was held up by the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans  and by the way, we dont harvest 20 lbers here in no.cal, we harvest algae from our lakes, we then bottle it up and sell it to to our texan friends so they can become witty and good typest   Once again, Cali taken care of the rest of ya'll! 8)

As far as the bbq'n goes....Hands down, a Texas-alabama bbq is priority on my visits to the mid states. :D And as far as the white tails....Hunting is for cowards!  unless your user name is your real name of course. Okay, first off let me say this. I can't even understand what you're trying to say, but I never could understand "valley girls" when they started talking. Second, I'm from the Houston area, so, no I'm not going to mention baseball or football or basketball unless I'm talking about another texas team. We're not known as the "Crutch City" for nothing!
As far as the BBQ, nuff said! The hunting is for cowards comment, I would expect that from a town boy. User name is what most people in the fishing industry know me by in Texas, but my real name is Andy Caldwell, not skeered!
We just have got PC's here in texas a couple of months ago, we're used to talking face to face, not with fancy words, so didn't figure we needed them until you cali boys started talking trash about having better lakes, so we thought we would join in for the heck of it! And what happened to Dobyns??? Must have found some chicken wings somewhere!!!

Splash,
What you do not understand is we have it all. We have deep clear lakes, we have structure lakes, we have tidal river systems, we have flooded forests, loads of docks, we have 30' visibility where tumbleweeds are cover, we have dirty water, and the list goes on. Heck, on Clear Lake alone you can find almost every possible water color, cover, or structure type. You get your butt signed up for the Rally@Clear Lake and come experience some of the best fishing in the nation. Unless your scared you will loose your love of Texas. :)

PS - I do think Texans make the best boots though and I might even give Texas a nod for good looking women. But, for well rounded fishermen they will never hold a candle to the Western states.

Please allow me Splash!! Well today it is 95 and HOT as hell. BUT there is no smog in the ski!! :o So we are at night fishing here. (Shoot something) Well if we see a Cal. guy on the lake then maybe we will start shotting. (Wild Woman) How did you know? (3 teeth) That was just funny I can't even reply to that.

Maybe you can get some of your Cal. friends and us Texans and have a little tourney and see who is the best. I can already tell you if you like. Fish the real way in cover and structure. Not in a 55 gallon drum like you Cal. guys are use to. No we better not y'all would sink your boat or get stuck between two trees or something. I could just see you get into a cove and not be able to get out cause you forgot how you got in.. and they don't have McDonalds on the water here so pack a big lunch cause it is going to be a long day for ya...

Hey Ken -

We did that recently - it was called the Rally at Texas (held at Lake Fork Marina Memorial Day weekend). We had the most participants from out of Texas (California that is). Lemme see, a guy from Louisiana won it going away, a guy from Virginia came in second and 2 of us California guys finished hire than Rick Loomis (BTW, Rick is an awesome guy, I had a blast fishing with him). What I am tryin to point out is that use non-Texans have some fishing skills - just don't get between Gary and his Donuts or Jimmy and his Ice Cream .

BTW Ken, have you seen Gary's boat?? Pretty sweet ride!!

DeWayne, What you do not understand is, take all that you just described and make it 10 or 15 times bigger and you just described Amistad! We fish in tree tops that you can see and they're 30 feet deep! Another thing that you may not understand is I have fished out there this year and I'm coming back! I loved fishing the Delta. One more thing that you may not understand is this, I'm just having fun, I could show you over on Tackle Tour where I've said almost the same thing exactly about the west coast fisherman, and I've been coming out there for the last couple of years and calling out there just about weekly trying to keep up with what's hot so I can get a jump on these other guys down here!

Better Fishing in Texas

Post by kb »

Lake Fork?????? Isn't that the place they held the pretend 4 man tournament this year.....4 guys, 3 days and they weighed in 244 pounds of bass on paper....Well at Clear Lake I think we had 7 guys weigh in over 100 pounds of real bass on a real scale.....

So you guys think running around in some trees would stop the true California bass fishermen......The tides on the delta drop out more water ever 6 hours than Lake Fork has in it!!!! As far as Amistad we only have one thing to say....California top 3, Busch Shootout won by a California angler oh and second place....yep you guessed Cali too!!! Checked the BASS point standings lately?????

Hey you guys out there ever heard of flippin, drop shottin, shakin or do you own any swimbaits?????yep they all came from California. Well you guys will catch up on the swimbait thing soon don't worry we know the difference between innovation and immitation!!!!! Only problem is you will have to give up your 5'6" pistol grip Fork Hawgin sticks to throw a Hud. Don't worry though your 5500C with the pearl handles will get top dollar on E-bay.

And what is it with you Texans calling a lake a "tank" what the hell is that all about.....oh and tossin a worm in the reeds.....reeds are in a duck call!!!!!

So a little Texas vs California tournament.....so you guys want to meet half way and fish Mead :?: :?:   How bout Havaclue in February???? Bring out your "get em out of the trees stuff"

Can you guys even catch a bass if you don't have something to throw at...why do you think they don't cut down the trees in your lakes. You guys might not want to ask Kelly Jordan what lake he prefers.

Well it looks like BASS will announce they will go to Falcon next year....great news you border okies will learn some new techniques to catch bass on another over rated Texas lake courtesy of the West Coast boys.

So do you guys still have that "Share a Lunker" program where you get to donate the fish to TF&W so they can get the dumb ones out of the gene pool. We just realease fish over 10 pounds so we can catch them when they are 15, 19 or 21.

I noticed that many of the Texas guys statements started with "IF", you know like "if we had warmer weather we would have bigger bass", "If we planted trout we would have bigger bass", "If you caught a fifteen pounder in fork he would wrap you around a tree". Well we have some if's here in California "If our fishing sucked a little more we would be Texas".

What you Texans need to do is get your GPS out, set it to Highway 20 in California and in about 1500 miles you will crest the hill and see the best bass lake in the country and then if you really want your mind blown venture up to Shasta and see a lake that fluctuates 200 feet per year...imagine that on Fork!!!!!

We really like Texas guys!!!! it is probably the second best bassin in the country and you have those awesome Texas pros like Yelas, Klein, Yamamoto, Matsubu, Niggemeyer.......oh that's right they are western guys sorry!!!!

Oh and leave Jimmy alone or we will send him back there in his purple and yellow boat, frosted hair and manicured nails to take your money and then what would ya'll have to say for yourselves then

Dang KB, did it only take you 3 days to come up with that? Or did you finally realize we were talking trash about your puddles instead of braggin' on it like you guys are used to hearing when you're talking amongst yourselves? As far as our pistol grip rods and 5500C's, I doubt you'd really want to match rods and reels with me, but you might. I don't know you but I'll put my equipment up against anybody's and I only know one guy in Ca that has more top end equipment than I do, and he's the enthusiast editor for TT. As far as the texans you keep throwing up, those guys all moved here for some reason, maybe to get away from Ca? And surely you're not going to try to claim Ben as a californian! California is the first, (and only) place I've ever seen that brags about playin' with a 3" worm! And why do you keep comparing Clear Lake to Fork? Fork's not a tournament lake. Compare it to Amistad or Choke Canyon and check the numbers year round, not just in the spring. See, I've fished out there and here, so I can speak with experience. You've only fished out there so you're just spouting off. And look, did you notice that not one sentence started with "if"? And you ask if us guys out here ever heard of flippin', drop shottin, shakin or do we even own any swimbaits??? How do you flip, drop shot or shake with a swimbait?? And is this discusion over who has the best lakes or who has the best anglers??? As far as reeds being in duck calls, I guess you never pitched the reeds in Frank's tract? Sure saw a lot of people doing it when I was there in march! They must have all been from texas out there trying to catch one of those true cali hogs! Go back to your magazine and your 3" worms and leave us "real" fishernen alone...
Oh Well,maybe another day!!!

Sorry to be the one to tell you this but all these guys live in Texas, you also forgot Kelly Jordan, They call Lake Fork there home lake for a reason. They are the ones that started the Texas Toyota Classic..

Have you ever seen 40,000 people at a tourney before. That is Texas hosp. for ya All that I am saying is that it is a better place to fish not that we grow a 24-25 pounder, that smarter people fish here for many reasons.

I do not own a boat right now but I can go to any boat ramp and just ask someone if I can fish with them and I have never been turned down. Now can you do that in Cal.?

Yea but I still had you going today anyway!!!!! Splash is harmless guys so don't let him get you all worked up, last time he was out here he had Jimmy and Gary D autograph his hat and he has already asked me to sign one at ICAST

He is really a closet California fan so treat him nice guys!!!! I bet the next thing he will be trying to fish with Gary's rods to be more like him  Probably gonna have a purple and yellow boat too!!!

I heard a rumor he fllies all the way out for Bass a Thon and stands in the corner.......some say he is stalking Siementel like a 15 stalks a Triple Trout (that's a swimbait splash)

I think Ricky is going to have to check id's at the door this year....Maybe Dobyns and Long can do it!!!!

Now Splash get a porno on pay per view and step away from the keyboard!!!!!!!

Splash........must be the sound a Texas bass makes when it eats a zara spook (that's a topwater bait splash)....out here it is more like WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!     oopps there are those damn Texans again.

Go to bed Splash!!!!!!
kb

I think you might need a second opinion on if I suck or not but don't ask the wealthy boat salesman, his fish catchin kid, the goat roapin Rboat rep, the bald brothers, the cop, or the Unicorn tournament director.....oh and probably not Newman, Bailey or Brakebill either!!!!!

I got to admit it, right here in front of everybody. As much as I jack with people it's pretty hard to get me, but you two got me! I was still stewin' at 6:00 this evening. Totally off guard! But I do have a long memory and a lot of patience! I will admit I have met my match at running my mouth though, my hats off, I bow down!!

P.S. Splash is the sound my big a$$ makes hitting the water while the camera boat is next to me!!! A bass hitting a spook down here sounds more like a toilet flushing............

I would start on the north bank of Sunshine Bay throwing a popper over the grass that starts behind the first point and runs all the way past the docks about 30 yds off the bank. Would stay there until the sun gets up, and if it's overcast until they quit. Caught a 10.6 and a couple of 8's there a couple of weeks ago. From there I would go to no name cove's north bank, first cut and work the outer edges of the pads with jigs and jerkbaits and pitch jigs and frogs into the pads. Been catching fish there since the 1st of may!
