Jerkbait question
Jerkbait question
While fishing last weekend for spots i had trouble getting the bigger fish too commit to my pointer 100. They would shy away at the last second. I tried different cadence but same affect. Sure caught the heck out rats though. What should have i done differently ?
Re: Jerkbait question
I would try a bait with a more realistic presentation. You might try a soft bait like a Basstrix paddle tail tube. Try to match the hatch better. My experience with spots at Naci has been similar smaller fish are easy. I switched from a small shad colored crankbait to a craw or a tube and got bigger fish.
Re: Jerkbait question
I personally don't throw Rip Baits in the summer months.I tend to throw them in late fall, and in winter when the water cools.Shad are way to deep in summer.I have way more sucess on topwater spooks in summer then a jerkbait.I will throw a rip bait in Oct--Feb.

Re: Jerkbait question
some recent ratcatching on a pointer 78, ripping over emerging weedbeds. Spring/summer I pick up the pace...no long pause like February.
It's just a beating.....till you fight back.

Re: Jerkbait question
Since I started throwing the XRap from Rapala I quit throwing the Pointers. Lucky Craft makes a great bait but I will take the XRap over it any time.
IMHO it has a much better action to it.
Give it a shot and see what you think.

I throw both! The clown XR is my go to when the water colors up a bit...big_gorilla wrote:Since I started throwing the XRap from Rapala I quit throwing the Pointers. Lucky Craft makes a great bait but I will take the XRap over it any time.
