Little help

Post by FISH2WIN55 »

I purchused a boat from a guy about six months ago. The boat had a keel guard on it that he had installed about six months before he sold it to me. I was driving the boat across Clear lake on a very rough day, pulled the boat out of the water and no keel guard. The only thing that was left was the foam and glue. How do a get the foam and glue off my boat without hurting it.
Thanks,
Roger

Goo-Gone is a good choice - as well as WD-40. Get all the big parts off, then use one of these to loosen the glue and wipe it off. May take 2-3 applications but it will work.

carburator cleaner works very well. I used it to clean off many off things. Just make sure you wipe off the boat real good when you get all the stuff off.

I second the Goo-Gone. My factory installed Keel Guard started peeling off shortley after I got my boat. The rep from the company recomended the stuff and it worked great.

The second Keel Guard has been on for six years now. He guessed that it was colder than what they recomend and the adhesive never really cured. The second one was installed in the summer.

Good luck.
I had to come back...I know...

Yep, sounds to me like there were some installation issues! First thing for you to do is to determine who's product it actually is. Is it a Keel Sheild or a Keel Guard? Or perhaps even a Hamby's Light?

Let's see,,, six months ago would have been - - - January! The Keel Sheild instructions specify to install at a temp of 70 degrees or more as I recall. There are also some simple prep steps that need to be done for full adhesion as well as using a fresh "activator" pack when doing the install. Nothing too serious, but if the installer followed the correct procedure this should not have happened!

I would contact the manufacturer for advice. I can personally vouch for the folks at KeelShield. I have not had a problem with either of the two I own but they have been extemely helpful any time I have talked with them. They may even provide you with a replacement at no cost to you!

Again though, you should find out who made it first then talk with them as for removing any adhesive residue.

OK,,, My Bad Mr. Nitro

Post by Ken C. »

OK, I shall here and now publicly appologize for my obvious stupidity. . .

Thank you to Mr. 912Nitro for bringing this to my attention so eloquently via a P.M. (as Rush Limbaugh would say... For those of you in Rio Linda that means "nicely" )

Per the unedited post:

I guess I erroneuosly assumed that with all of those "abouts" all dates were approximate. All I was trying to do was to help "Fish2Win55" out with determining a cause of failure and getting a replacement. Please pardon my attempt at assisting someone!

Joe, as I have told you before you need a new hobby. Going forward if you don't have the balls to put it in front of the rest of the folks here then don't bother puttin' it at all because from this point forward all pm's from you will be deleted without reading. Simply stated, you are not worth the time.

I do not make a habit out of posting PM's because that's what they are supposed to be - PRIVATE. However when it gets this rediculous it needs to be brought out into the open. Heck this even represents two minutes that I'll never get back...
