Will this truck be able to pull my boat?

Post by Brian Manthe »

First off I know this is supposed to go into the vehicle discussion thread, but no one ever seems to respond to that thread, and I'm needing to purchase this truck today. So that's why I'm asking for your advice on this thread.

I am wondering if anyone has experience with the older Fords Early 1990's. That have the 5.0 Liter engine. I have a 20 ft. Champion bass boat that I need to buy a truck that can pull it to my local lakes in Southern Oregon, and maybe an occasional trip to Clearlake over the siskiyou's. Will the Ford with the 5.0 be able to handle the occasional trip? What kind of gas mileage should I expect?

Thanks

Brian - You should be able to pull the boat with no problem with the 5.0. Mileage will vary depending on the truck (stick, AC running, etc) but you should see 14-16 while towing. I have an '01 SuperCrew (5.4) that I tow my Ranger with and I get 12-14 while towing (Automatic trans).

Good Luck with your purchase!!

If is is Auto tranny -- and a Heavy glass boat...(21' Cobalt Condurra)..... Just tow it NOT in the O/D mode. You wil be limited to 55 -62 depending on your rear axle grears.

If you are towing in non-O.D and clipping 2800 + rpm .... You will put the least amount of strain on your tranny. -- As long as it is pure flat land and cool outside temps.

This is for my '95 F-150 ex cab LB with the 5.8HO engine. Workes Marvelous to Folsom and Union Valley Res ...... Leaving Union Valleys is a Bish and I have someone else take my family down as I stay in 1st gear and breaks.

My '05 Dodge Cummings ........... What boat

Be safe and slow and know your truck and trailors limitations.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.
