How about this rule................

Post by Guy Williams »

Not a DFG rule but a tourney rule. Is someone dragging a carolina rig or split-shot just trolling? Isn't trolling against the rules? How far can you drag before you have to reel it in before it's called trolling? Also, I hope your 5/0 and bigger hooks are within the state law for gaps, I'll be checking!

Bassmasters called it strolling. For those of you who remember that one.

Trolling, (the act of manipulating the lure solely by maneuvering the boat under any type of power) is prohibited

thats reationbait fishermans way of leveling the playing feild now with the new hook in the mouth law could u imagine if someone protested all those draggers out their who dont make a cast for half a mile while they drag a c rig or split shot would be intresting

It was call strolling and trolling

Trolling is illegal. The rules states "Cast and Retreive" YOu must cast out and retreive your bait. Impossible to prove and even more impossible to enforce.

Is someone dragging a c-rig or splitshot really that much of a threat to you? Sure, they might get the odd fish here or there but in the long run, it's a pretty lame way to target fish and if someone is doing it in a tournament situation, they're pretty much out of ideas anyway.

You must have never fished places like the Columbia River or Lake Erie. I have a friend that has won over $100,000 split shotting and he taught me a lot about the technique that I had no clue of.

There are certain times and situations where a splitshot or CR will out fish everything.

Theres nothing wrong with a C-Rig and I wouldnt say its a last resort. I think you might be supprised as to who does it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didnt Aaron Martens kick every ones butt with a Splitshot when he lived out here?

I'm trying to figure out who Guy is trying to nail because I dont think he C-Rigs a whole lot

I'm glad to see that you made it back into the country after being deported. How long is your visa for this time. Hopefully long enough for Guy and I to take your money again during the winter months while we are on the ice jig bite and you and Rex are dredging up the bottom at DV.

Not according to BASS.
I asked that very question to Dewey Kendrick, TD for BASS during a BASS inventational at Elephant Butte several years ago.

Not legal in a BASS Tourney.

The work around in BASS became pull on the rod once and awhile. Then you aren't trolling because you are manipulating the rod. Go figure.

Ricky you missunderstood

Post by JohNNy Utah »

C-rig and split shot are great ways to fish. What I was refering to is just draging it behind the boat. As in a non-boater (or boater for that matter) who's bored out of their mind and is just keeping a bait wet.

I my self personnaly hate the wind pulling my bait. You just dont feel the suttle hit's as much and if your bait or weight hit's something and the boat is moving then you have a hard time telling wether or not it's a fish pulling.
