Angling For Autism Results
This Saturday marked the first annual "Angling For Autism" Charity tournament held at Diamond Valley Lake. 22 teams participated in this innaguaral event aimed at raising funds for Lyme induced Autism.
When the dust settled on this 6 hour summer event, the team of John and Tammy Morrow emerged victorious on the shoulders of a 7.44 Largemouth which also held up as big fish of the event. The teams total weight of 20.92 pounds was good for nearly $2,500 in first place cash and options. Additionally the duo took home the custom big fish trophy provided by High Sierra Woodcarvings worth $500.
Tami Duncan, the tournament coordinator pulled all the strings out and gathered nearly $6,000 in raffle prizes for this event including a Forever Resorts houseboat trip, WON BASS team entries for a season, guide trip with Mike Folkestad, and so much more that it is impossible to list.
Addtionally, lunch was provided to all contestants courtesy of ChicK-Fil-A and waters from Aquarious Waters.
Thanks to the multitude of sponsors who Tami will have to get on and list individually. Also, thanks to the volunteer staff including Robert Schnieder and Larry Duncan from WON BASS and Lynne Peterson from National Bass West for thier help during the event.
A permit has been pulled for a night tournament for "Angling for Autism" next year. Look for information on this event as the new year rolls around.

Well worth the enrty fee and for a great cause!!!

Hutch and Ponting threw one heck of an event in ironman..Its sad that you didnt think it was a great event. I guess if you have 86 teams and 172 anglers your going to find one guy that wants to cry about it. I think if its the prizes your interested in you should not enter the tournament and just sit in the parking lot and buy raffle tickets. Anglers Marine and Wonbass always throw class act events.
Create your own luck.

Re: Angling For Autism Results
Well, I guess I am the most confused person of all here since I was the tournament director for both events which were both run on the same body of water.
Unfortunately, Anglers are not always privy to what it takes to get prizes from sponsors. Unlike many imagine, factories don't just give away stuff for the heck of it. I can tell you that a sponsor is much more likely to give prizes to a "501C3 tax deductable charity event" than they are a for profit event. The quality and mechanics of running a tournament have little or nothing to do with the level of prizes that are offered at an event. "Angling for Autism" had roughly $6K worth of Raffle prizes that were split among a relatively small field, so yes, your chances of winning were proportional to the number of anglers who bought tickets.
The Ironman tournament had roughly $3K in raffle prizes that were distributed among a much larger number of anglers. These anglers however did not have to purchase raffle tickets as they were a part of the contest.
Tami Duncan did indeed do a great job of procuring prizes for the Angling for Autism event. I can tell you that you can expect even more prizes for next year's tourament. I would however concur with Someguy that if it all you are about is the prizes, then save your entry fee and use it to buy raffle tickets.
I am glad that you enjoyed the "Angling for Autism" event as a quite a bit of work went into the event. I would however like to know where you feel the Ironman event fell short so that I can address your concerns and try to make it better next season. My number is below.

Ya know Hutch... you're not only one of the BEST TD's around, but you're a gentleman. I personally want to thank you for your time to make that event great. My wife, Jill worked the event and my partner Scott and I fished it. We had a great time, fished poorly but still took some things home for our donation. Remember, a lot of the entry went to the charity and I believe all of the raffle money did.
My wife and I want to thank Tami, Troy and all the volunteers for doing your part in the war on Autism, as parents of 2 Autistic children, we appreciate everything being done to help our kids and others. We WILL be there next year to help and participate.

Ok...sorry I didn't realize you were TD for both. As far as the other things about Iron man. For a 500 entry...no shirts? I spent over an hour in line to weigh fish and raffle?? when did that happen? maybe when i was in line. Any way.
My point was....I had fun at both but thought some thing could have been better for the amount of money and people.
Is that better?

damn right it was.. You come on here talking out yer @$$ like a moron. To top off how stupid you looked with your original post you can't even put a sentence together.I suggest next time you want to bash an event at least know what your talking about and not spit out meaningless crap. Good luck with winning your raffles sparkles, the rest of us will actually be trying to boat fish. Thanks for all your donations.

Re: Angling For Autism Results
Well, Some guy......i was only stating that for $500 enrty.....it would of been nice to get something back. Maybe a shirt of a hat that told people.....i fished the event. That's about all i was saying. and as far as my proper english....i didn't know you graded peoples sencene structure.
Ironman was a great event.
Angling for Autism was also.
The differance was, i guess, it was for charity and not for the anglers.....like you!
enjoy your fish....you boat! At the end....it's all you got.

My husband Mike finally got to fish a tournament and what fun he had. We had the grand boys for five days and decided that Saturday we would go out to the charity event and cheer on grandpa. The grand boys, Ethan 11 and Tanner, 6 had the best time. They really enjoyed selling (and buying) raffle tickets. They both won some fabulous “secretâ€

Re: Angling For Autism Results
Thank you so much for all of the great and entertaining comments. I really appreciate everyone's support on this event. I already have a list of things I can do better next year. I'm really proud of all of the raffles we were able to get. It sure does help to be a 501c3.
We had SO many raffles that I actually got tired of calling tickets and we ended up giving the rest away to those who hadn't won a prize yet. So everyone did, indeed get a goodie bag, lunch, waters and a raffle prize of some sort.
Thank you again to all that participated and donated and to those who just showed up to check it out. You have all helped us to raise money towards the autism research and awareness programs and I can tell you that the money will be used wisely and in a way to benefit these kids.
As for a tournament next year....we plan to make it bigger and better. Can you say night tournament? Pre-tournament event and a night tournament in July. (more boats = more money for all!) We'll keep you posted as we firm things up.
Take care,
Tami Duncan
