Only having a few spare hours to fish I talked my 10 year old daughter into getting up at 430am to go fishing with me. Because of the early hour I had to give her an incentive, she got to drive the boat.
6am we put the boat in the water at Ladds and motor out to the main channel with it being clear of most boats I let her sit in my lap and steer while while I work the hot foot. After a 20 minute run to our first spot we shut down and float up to the spot. I tell her that there are some big fish in this area.I've been hitting it every trip a least once trying to figure out the tides phase for the spot having caught 5 and 6 pounders from it in the past.
As we float up to the spot we pull the drop shot rig out for her she selects her purple worm and we go over rigging it on the hook. I cast the rigg out to show her the location to fish and while she is working the DS rig back I pull my jig rod out and slime up the TNT Wadda Jig and trailer with some scent and toss it in to the same area. The jig hits bottom and I let sit for a few seconds before I shake it then I feel the TIC and set the hook. My rod bows to the weight giving me the idea that its a solid fish. My daughter is standing next to me and has just reeled in her rig so I ask " do you want to reel it in" to which she replied yes.
Now as she's reeling it in I get the first sight of the fish

Now this was the best part of the trip which I wish I'd of gotten a picture of. I explained to her about caring for it and running water through the gills and I stood there and watched her work that fish back and forth tell it was ready to take off and away it went leaving a smile on her face.
Mornings on the water don't get any better than that, the sun coming up over the tullies a 10 plus fish and smile on your childs face is turley a blessing to experince.
