Whoopbass,

That has to be the most asinine thing that I've ever seen typed in these forums. Are you kidding me? I bet you also hang at the airport and spit on the troops when they come home too.[/quote]

Nice, response.

Pretty much explains your thought process in your reply.

How off topic can this get ?

You don't need to remind us of that. Your liberal supporting union runs enough ads that I don't think the helpless public can ever forget.
Are you kidding me? You actually have the gull to sit here and type such a thing. What do you do? Im sure you sit in a comfortable office or behind a counter taking food orders and feel pretty safe, thats because the people that do my job our out there protecting people like you. I dont see how our unions are liberal, but hey to each their own opinion, but just remember the reason why you are able to go out in your neighborhood and sleep at night is because of the job that US public servants do for you. Bottom line, hate us all you want, but I gaurantee once you need us you will have no problem calling. Remember that next time some fireman goes into your house when it is engulfed in flames, or a police officer takes a drug dealer or violant criminal off the streets. Bottom line is you need people like me and many others out there so you can feel safe in your little comfort zone. Im sure your life is routine, wake up, go to work, go home, try dealing with a job that is constantly changing and you never know if you going to go home and see your loved ones. Try doing that and then you will have the right to talk about me and what I do.

Post by DRA GARYH »

These are the types of responses I expect from the miss-informed and closed minded. First of all I am the Organizer of the wakeboard event that was scheduled for August 18th, 2007. Second just so you know all proper permits were pulled and authorizations were in place. The problem for the event was the No Tow ordinance and how it was written. The Sheriffs department enforced the ordinance to the "T" and I do not hold harsh feeling for that. In fact the sheriffs department did bring up events and the wording needed in the ordinance prior to it being enacted is something that was a point proven at the cost of our event.
Also you should know that the Sheriffs department has offered to assist us in our events and feels that we are safely controlling the event and taking into consideration the safety of the riders and public. We also obtain Coast Guard permits and approval. When do your tournaments do that? When is the last time a Bass tournament has pulled a land use permit from the county to organize at Orwood? How many of you know that legally you need to.
Also we are out $2200 in lost moneys and none of it to the products we raffled off. We lost money in permit fee's, insurances, rental costs, and equipment costs. For me it is the cost of doing business. The products we raffled off was strictly to give to the riders that showed up to participate and did not get to.

One of yours has been posting in a wakeboard forum and with questions and concerns about how we planned on running the event and handling traffic. Most tried to explain the steps we will take to make it the most inconvenient possible. The bottom line is it is only one day and only about 8 hours of the day. We are not running in the entire slue it is only in 1200' of it approximately. We are not in any way shutting down the slue or saying you cannot pass through the course. We will have events there in the future and we will respect the need for people to pass I just hope consideration to our event is shown in return.

Dan McKenzie wrote:If in fact Ms. Piepho approved of such an idiotic thing, then they should recall her. It goes to show how ignorant some people are to what is actually going on where they live and supposedly supervise. This article from last year in the C.C. Times http://www.contracostatimes.com/ci_5714 ... ck_check=1
points to this particular area as one of the most dangerous in the Delta. It really doesn't matter if it's a wakeboard contest, or a little yellow rubber ducky contest, that spot is a very lousy choice to hold anything in. Added pressure to other already busy sections is asking for trouble. I would feel the same about running a bass tournament from this location.

Dan, you apparently do not know about the numerous Bass Tournaments held at Orwood durring the year.

BASSK9 wrote:The Delta Riders Association scheduled a Wake Board tournament at Orwood Resort on Saturday. They intended to perform in Werner Cut from Orwood to Discovery Bay. They designated boater members for tournament traffic controll with signs who intended to impede and stop boaters while wakeboarders made runs down the cut. Werner cut and parts of Indian Slough are are no tow zones on weekends and holidays.
1. Wake Boarders have a right to waive laws?
2. Wake Boarders have a right to impede traffic on navitagable water ways?
The Sherriff got wind of the idea and showed up at 8:10 AM and announced no dice! Wake Boarders got in his face and he called back up. Seven Sherriff units (one K9) showed up and stayed untill 6 PM. They turned Wake Board boats away! The Wake Board organizers said they had a permit and a letter from Mary Piepho (sp?) a Contra Costa County Supervisor waiveing the no tow restriction for them. Mary Piepho is the Supervisor who inflamed all the wake boarders and water skiers by authoring the no tow regulations. Now she is trying to kiss up to them by waiving a law for special interest and politics. No way a single commissioner can waive a law for a special interest group! Additionally a large Motorcycle ride for charity planned to stop at Orwood for breakfast and booze. The 150 bikers got a glimpse of the Sherriff army decided to start drinking somewhere else. Grumbling as they thundered off to Bethel bars.
The next scheduled event is a bare foot water ski exhibition featuring 100 mph bare footers in Werner cut. The no tow zone! Again organizers plan to impede and controll your right to fish or navigate those areas while they have a tournament.
Why can't we restrict boating during Bass tournaments? How would that go over? Violate speed, saftey regulations during tournaments given a politicians desire for our vote? I recommend that you send a protest to the County Commissioner and let them know how that works for you.
The tournament organizer is beside himself over the sherriff shutting it off. He claims they lost $2500.00. I asked how so? Well he said they had to give away the prizes in a free raffle! HUH? You chose to give them away not had to! I asked him why they did'nt schedule it for the Old River, Middle River etc where it is legal to tow? That got him into a circular argument about tournament organizers having a valid permit. The Sherriff hadn't issued a permit to tow in a no tow zone. He continued his circle. What right do you have to impede me from boating an area while they make runs? The circle continued.
These idiot boarders will bring political pressure to bear and may get special use permits in the future. If so Bass boaters and Family boaters will be denied access or have limited access to certain water ways because the politicians will cave in to pressure. Apply your pressure! Send a letter to the Sherriff and to the County Commissioners!
1) Wakeboarders hold no rights that differ from anyone else
2) Our Event will only take up 1200' of the Warner dredge cut in front of Orwoods Campgrounds.
3) The Sheriff was fully aware of the event prior to the actual event day.
4) The Charity Event that DRA will help host is after the "No-Tow ban" is lifted. It is only from the Sunday before Memorial Day till Labor Day and is Weekends and Holidays only during that time period.
5) You could restrict traffic if you filled for the correct permits to do so. Would you even know where to start? I could help you out if you don't.
6) We do not violate speed or safety during the event that is why it is an organized controlled event.
7) You never asked me anything about us having to shut down the event and I never claimed to have to give away anything.
8) You have some big boasts in calling us boarder’s idiots when you don't even take the time to get your facts straight or educate yourself in what we are permitted to do or not to do.

Your irritate me Guru. Your all high and mighty attitude is the reason a large percent of the population doesn't care for your chosen profession.

FYI... your just a regular person with no super human powers.

Here's some facts:

Rank Occupation Death rate/100,000 Total deaths
1 Fishers and fishing workers 118.4 48
2 Logging workers 92.9 80
3 Aircraft pilots 66.9 81
4 Structural iron and steel workers 55.6 35
5 Refuse and recyclable material collectors 43.8 32
6 Farmers and ranchers 41.1 341
7 Electrical power line installers/repairers 32.7 36
8 Driver/sales workers and truck drivers 29.1 993
9 Miscelleneous agricultural workers 23.2 176
10 Construction laborers 22.7 339

Where does your job rank? I don't hear any of these other professions telling me how they risk their life on a daily basis just so they can put food on my table, goods in my home or a roof over my head.

Sure your profession is needed but my GAWD I don't need to hear about how much the public owes your kind.

I'm not going to argue about this any longer since it's not going to change any minds. The only reason to keep this going would be because it makes for some interesting reading here on the forum.

Lay off the booze till atleast 3:00pm. Other wide you will be drunk before dinner.

Whoopbass - While your data is factual I don't think this is an arguement worth making. It is a fact that police, fire, & military do spend a great deal of time in situations where the danger level is high. They do have to perform their duties knowing that at any day and any time they could end up in a situation where they are in danger of loosing their life. Some of us take the dangers we face dailey for granted. In these professions they are reminded quite frequently by the publicity of deaths in their professions of the dangers they face.

DRA Garyth,
Thank you for adding the clarity of hearing the other side of the story to this discussion. As you can tell we have some selfish and closed minded people in our sport. It is one of those vocal minority things. There are many of us that understand that our rivers and lakes are open for all to share. Many will just keep quiet and ignore rants such as the one started by Bassk9. Thank You for your participation and I wish you luck with your events. Maybe I will even come out and watch one.

There was no reason for you to jump in, and say that comment of being tired of hearing how police put there butt on the line. You should think before you speak next time! And as far as your stats, who cares! Police at any given time can have there lives on the line.

Well since I am a fisherman I think my profession would rank #1 on your list. LOL. Im very happy that someone like yourself can use google and find statistics. I congratulate you on that. Trust me on this, I am probabely one of the least arrogant individuals in my professions. Am I proud of what I do, YES, just like you enjoy mowing your lawns for a living or asking if people would like try two apple pies for a dollar. All i am saying is that you can not judge my profession unless you are willing to put on the uniform and do what I do. Thats it, I dont ask and dont feel like the public owes me a thing, for I have taken this job on my own accord and love what I do. I am more than willing to go out night after night and risk my life for not only the other individuals that have chosen my same path or someone that I dont even know. Thats what we do. I dont sit around and tell other people that they are insiginificant based on their job, bottom line is you attacked a whole of individuals that are out there putting thereselves at risk for you to live your life. Its just like the military, people are out there today dieing for the freedoms that we have grown accustomed to, just so that you can sit at your computer and look up statistics on the most hazardous job death rates. Until you have either one devoted your life to be a civil servant or served in the military you will never know what my life is. Bottom line is I know I am human and dont think that im better than anyone else. Its just that people who dont have a clue what they are talking about making idiotic statements that bothers me. Next time you see a house on fire in the trailor park and you see the fire department arrive, ask yourself what would make an individual go inside a burning building for people they dont even know. Its called a little intestonal fortitude, which from the sound of it sounds like you are lacking. I am only human and yes I love what I do, but do I feel that I am a little special, you gosh dang right I do for I have chosen to go out and serve in my community, weather that means I have a long 30 year career or I am killed in the line of duty, the bottom line is that I know that I am one selfess person for I woke up everyday and was willing give my life for my fellow man kind. I think that alone makes me just a little bit special.

Wow, sales supervisors are pretty high up there at number 3. I guess it's still trendy for disgruntled workers to open fire on their bosses. If it were the 90s and the position was postal supervisor, that ranking just might be at the very top!

Everyone has a little Captain in them :D
Best tip of the day.....When a wake boarder comes your way DON'T LOOK at them, if you do they will do a trick and eat it. Then you get the big circle and a start up again= Lots of waves= sore back. I don't see the big deal, its been the same thing for years....fishermen don't care for wake boards and any other wave making back and forth running boat. Why complain? I think it's a great idea to put a group of them in one area LOL! It is a law on lakes with a slot limit not to keep any in the slot in the boat but we get that waved for tourneys. I don't see the big deal this law waved that law waved. Let um have fun, they only get part of the year to do so. We have all year to fish.
One more thing to say.....SHUT UP AND FISH! :D

Don.

Personal attacks suck............... :(

O' Muse, Sing in me, and through me tell the story
of that man skilled in all ways of contending,
the wanderer, harried for years on end,
after he plundered the stronghold
on the proud height of Troy.

He saw the townlands

and learned the minds of many distant men,
and weathered many bitter nights and days
in his deep heart at sea, while he fought not only
to save his life, but to bring his shipmates home.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Senko i'm just judging you by what you type and from what I read your an arrogant A-Hole.
I'm probably wrong since several of your friends say your a good guy but you need to think before you type.

You cut me down because I don't agree with you. Is that what they teach you to do with people that have a different opinion then yours?

You say you don't tell people how insignificant they are by the job that they do. Well from what I read you must think landscapers and fast food workers are nothing but idiots since you compare me to them.

You said some other negative comments about me that are completely untrue for the simple fact I don't think your as great as your big blue gang tells you how great you are.

You must be pretty green or a very intollerant person.
With time you will learn to keep your mouth shut and not engage in pointless discussions like this one.

I've enjoyed stirring the pot up one more time. I will quit now before I get banned.

And in time, Maybe, just maybe you will learn to do the same.

You started the trash talking with Senko not the other way around. But wake boarders are not the sharpest knife in the drawer. You must have had a bad experiance with law enforcement some time in your past. Maybe you got arrested and had to be some guys boyfriend for the night? Thats ok, just dont take it out on Senko. He is one of the good guys.

Whoopbass --- Why don't you PM him and meet him at Chilles, Chevy's, TGIF or at the 7-11 for some grub, drink and chitchat ?? He would gladly drive 50+ miles in his Toyota Prius to shake hands....

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Whoopbass,

Not green one bit, you can judge me by my typeing and thats fine. I just believe we have a difference of opinions and this is america so we can have them. Just remember you are the first one to attack me, I didn't call you out, but I will defend my profession and everyone else that does what I do. Im sure your opinion has been formed on past encounters with public safety personel, and hey I cant change that. To each their own I say.

As far as me being a part of a"big blue gang" I can honestly say that Im not in a gang, a gang is two or more individual that conspire to commit crimes, I believe that I go out and try to prevent crimes.

They dont teach me nothing on how other people think, for these our my own personal opinions and just remember you may hate everything I stand for, what I wear and what I do in my job, but just remember when you need soemthing you will not hesitate to pick up the phone and call us....and believe it or not we will show up and provide you with the same service that we give everyone.

I dont judge people on their race, skin, color, religion, creed, sexual orientation, opinions etc.... bottom line everyone is a human being and if you need us we will come. you trying to say that my profession is not dangerous and your tired of hearing this and that in MY Opinion that is an ignorant statement to say.

as for being intollerant, maybe a little, for dealing with stupid people all the time will do that to anyone. Im glad that you have enjoyed "stirring the pot" and I see that you are scared of being banned, if that is something that will detour you from defending what you believe, then that just speaks volumes about your personality. The thought of being banned has crossed my mind, but I am still writing my response for it is what I believe. Yes I have made some statements about your so called profession, if your feelings were hurt, so be it. Im sure you are of an adult age and need to suck it up, for life isnt fair at times.

Just remember when you are going on about your hate gargain towards law enforcement, firemen, and any other public safety entity, you will need us one day. Thats the bottom line, you call us not the other way around. So best wishes to you and hopefully one day you will see that I am right.
MY BACK HURTS FROM CARRYING THIS DAMN TEAM!!!!

Dwayne how do you remove the splinters from the fence straddle ?

I do not think you are open minded enough for me to explain, but let's give it a try, you try to....OK. I have always been pro-law enforecement, as I have mentioned I worked very closely with several branches for about 5 years. You have mis-interpreted my comments. Nothing more, nothing less.

I made a simple comment that seemed to hit a nerve and you assumed a great deal about me. You now think you know where I am coming from based on one statement.

I do find some of your comments to be foolish as I stated before. This is not a slam on other firemen or cops or my condemnation of the professions. It is my opinion based off a few comments of yours on a web site. That does not mean if we were to go fishing we would not get along, just that I think your comments here on that day were foolish.

Call me a fence rider if you choose. I do believe that most things are not black or white, but are shades of grey. I try to keep my mind open and look at facts, if someone says something I think is unfair or a misrepresentation I will usually state my opinion in support of the truth.

I have cop friends that are outlaws with badges, that does not mean all officers are corrupt or bad people. I have a fire fighter friend/acquaintence who spends a lot of time on disability but is always well enough to fish, dirtbike, etc. that does not mean that all firefighters are lazy freeloaders. In both cases I have many more friends in each profession that are great hard working people. Once again the world is not black or white.

Please don't make me go back and pick your post apart one by one. There is no value for me in proving a point.
