Problem statement:
I buy a new spool of line. I put some of the line on a reel. Next time I pick up the reel I have to guess how much line is left on that spool. Is it enough to fill that reel?
The same thing happens on the reel. I use backing for most of my baitcasters (if the line is 12lbs test or more). Once I put the backing on how do I know how much more line I'm going to need from the spool to fill the reel?
Bottom line is that one of two things happen:
1. I end up with a whole lot of spools that don't have enough line left on them to fill a reel or use as backing. (I recycle these left overs)
2. I end up using up the remaining line that was on the spool, but when I get down to the end it isn't enough to fill up the reel. Oh, I hate that.
Anybody got any good techniques they use to minimize the wasted line?
And, I don't like to ask for help without offering some in return, so here's my help:
There, is a place, as in 'I think a hog is under that dock over there.'
Their, is someone, as in 'Their boat is purtyier than yours.'
They're, is a contraction of They and Are, as in 'They're going to win'
Weather is the stuff that is outside, as in 'The weather sucks.'
Whether, is a choice, as in 'Let me know whether or not you want to go fishing'.
Your boat has a 'console', or maybe two.
Witch, is a woman that will torment you or put a hex on you.
Which, is a choice, as in 'Which lure are you going to use?'
(Just having some fun. Read the sig line.)
