Yamaha Vmax Question
I have a 04 Yamaha Vmax 200 hp on my ranger 519 vx. The engine has a 25 pitch prop. Now when I trim all the way up I am pushing 6000 RPM's. I know that this is to high and was wondering if any of you have had the same situation. Or suggestions on what I can do. Could it be that my Tach is off? or do I need to go with a better prop. I am pushing 65 MPH GPS and believe that I should be able to go faster. Any help would be appreciated.

You are underpowered..........

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Re: Yamaha Vmax Question
He is not underpowered, the max rating for a 04 519 is a 200 hp
motor. You may want to check your tach, there is a adjustment screw/nut on the back. I have had them go wacky before.
A Ranger 519 with a 200 Yamaha tourney loaded will run top speed 65 -68 mph so you are right there. The high rev on your tach is probably like I said, in need of adjustment.
One other note, that model hull does not like to be trimmed all the way up for maximum performance. Trim back a bit and find the sweet spot.
Senko-guru for the record, I run a Ranger 519 200 HPDI as well. I am no expert but thought prehaps I could help you out

Re: Yamaha Vmax Question
Senko, I have the same engine and prop on my Skeeter. My boat was set up at the Skeeter factory for the Bassmasters classic in 02. At full trim it runs 6200 rpm at 68 to 70 mph on gps. But 95% of the time I run my boat at 5 to 5500 rpm. That should give you an idea what you should be running. Do not forget about weight too I do not know if Rangers are heaveir or lighter than Skeeters and if you have a lot of stuff in your boat that can make the boat a little heavier.

Re: Yamaha Vmax Question
Hey Matt,
Check the sticker on the mid section of the engine....sometimes on the conroll arm. It will tell you what MAX RPM or RED LINE is. Then you will know if you have to re-prop your boat. I have a 200 opti on my nitro and i max out at 54-5500 rpm at 67mph on gps (although i carry a tackleshop in my boat). But my red line is 5800. I think i heard that the Yami's rev a bit higher so i think you should be good.
You can always give me a call if you need something to bud! Hope it all works out.... and nice buy!

Senko-Guru,
Here is a link for this motor, remember different hulls and boats will react different. Examlpe my team partner has a 97 482 with a Mariner 175 and his hull has completely different bow lift.

Hipster is right on! However,
Be careful at full throttle trimed full up. If you pull the throttle back fast without trimming the boat down first. You could have trouble controling the direction of the boat. And if your in the delta in a narrow slough that bank may come up on you. It's happened to me. I got control back by over steering. It surprised me. I have been running a bass boat or over 27 years and never anything happen like that. I am running a 20 foot boat, 225hp/w 10" hyd. Jack plate set at 2"

Find that sweet spot. I get the best ride, fuel economy, and ease of steering @ 3/4 trim, 4500 RPM, 2"of Jack Plate.
Think about this would you run your truck engine wide open???
