The spring trout bite is off the hook......

Post by Pete Marino »

there this time of year. Try trolling cd5 or cd7 Rapalas on eight lb mono. Fire tiger or the silver side with black back. I'd opt for the fire tiger myself. Also you might want to try a yellow crick hopper. They only dive about 18-24 inches but they are DEADLY for Big Bear Trout. It has to be glassy to use them though because they will skip in wind. If the wind is blowing just throw the CD and let it down 10-12ft. Troll the North end of the lake from the observatory to the dam, along the outside of the weedline. It will be killer...Good luck.
As for Bass, they should be starting their spawn I believe. I dont fish for them when I fish Big Bear because the trout bite usually keeps us busy.

about the water clarity at Big Bear right now. But generally Big Bear is a little off color in my opinion. I dont ever really Bass fish when I'm there. Like I said, I mostly always only fish for trout when I'm up there. I'd guess the water temp is in the low to mid 50s right now, maybe up to 57-58 possibly. The best guy to talk to about Big Bear Bass fishing is Manny F. He is the man with all the answers for bass in that lake.Pete
