I'm glad you had fun fishing Matt.
I'm not familiar with Lake Matthews, but it's sounds like it wasn't legal to be fishing. It's not too bright to post your entire story and your name on a public fishing website bud. It's kind of like a written confession.

First off I will say BS to your diver story. I work for MWD, and I know every diver that has worked here for the past 20 years, and that story is just like I said, BS.
They have seen big cats, but nothing like the urban legend you are talking about. That story has been told about every lake that has a dam.
Secondly,I hope you enjoyed your little expedition to the lake. You are very lucky you were not caught, but keep going back, as you will be caught soon enough.
I also doubt very much that you left the area cleaner than you found it. It has been my experience, and trust me when I sat this as I know what I am talking about, "bait chuckers" that do the "ninja" thing love to leave their trash on the ground.
They never leave the area cleaner than they found it. Think about it, if you are going to break the law to fish, we are expected to believe you would be a good citizen and actually haul out your garbage. I am not buying it.
I have gone as far as to leave a trash can with a note begging the poachers to at least put their trash in the can, if they must insist on fishing illeagally. That was a waste of tax payer time.
In the future I would advise you to not post the results of your "ninja" trips to Lake Mathews. There is a better website suited to you. It is called "FNN". Fishing network.net. It is full of fisherman of your caliber, Those who brag of their exploits such as you have done.
By the way, just a friendly hint, there are employees of the Department of Fish & Game who read, and contribute post to this site. You have been warned.

Re: ninja fishing lake matthews 9-2-07
take a chill pill bro. i grew up hoping over the fence at matthews , fishing for cats, smoken the green skunkers was good stuff and drinken bl's. it was a pass time we did and we would fish the quarry where dos lagos is now and up above lake mathews drive there was a lake on some guys prop, we would get chased off, along the 15 freway there was all kinds of water holes we use to fish. Our favorite was lake matthews cause of the myth of getting caught how busted you would get this was all in the late 80's to early 90's . i d do it still if i could hop over a fence still. that would waste to much energy rather save that fun for when my son becomes a teenager he can follow in dads footsteps
Re: ninja fishing lake matthews 9-2-07
Sorry guys if I ruffled a few feathers. It was not my intention to piss off everyone, just the guy who needs to spend more time in his language arts class learning to write, rather than poaching.
Some of you on here have had the privilege of fishing that lake legally, and you know who you are.
I would hate to see that privilege taken away because of some jerk who feels he has to justify his existance on this site by posting about his little fishing trip. Take your night crawlers and anchovies, and just go away.
I am sure that most of us in our lifetime have fished in waters that were off limits, but how many of us went to the local newspaper and bragged about it.
How many of you were allowed to fish DVL before the rest of the general public? A lot of you. How many of you went on-line and bragged about it. Not many.
Sorry about my rant. I guess I am just loyal to my employer, and to my fellow employees, who have had to clean up after these "fisherman".
One last thing on this subject. Two of our security officers have been assaulted in the past after encountering poachers at Lake Mathews. Just something to think about.
Now please delete this entire post.

Every lake in so cal gets poached every night all summer long..especially san diego lakes. I agree not too smart to post it, but seriously if the guy wants to share his fishing experience thats why we have these sites. Sucks your rangers got assaulted , but i have met many rangers i wanted to assault. I just think its lame to get soo worked up.
Create your own luck.

This site is a step above others in the ethics of it's members. It is not the place for accounts of poaching expeditions. How would you feel about an accounting from a trip where the poster details an overlimit, under-sized bass killing fest? Probably about as upset as Art got to see his livelyhood compromised. Especially when the illegal acts have lead to assault on his fellow workers. I say to Pontoon, get some ethics, learn some respect for authority or send a few posts from jail asking how the weather is on the outside. Anybody else that feels that Art is wrong better check their own commitment to the resource and the sport. Just because you did it as a kid does not mean that is what you should now condone. Other kids on the site, consider your actions. It is a different venue than it was years ago. There are people just looking for a reason to close these facilities. Use your energy to protect the few accessible waters that we have. Not to get more enforcement activity on the water.

The only kind of Poachers I like are Castaic striper poachers and I hope they never get caught.

Re: ninja fishing lake matthews 9-2-07
Art, you are right on about not wanting to lose the privledge of the DFG letting some folks on Matthews LEGALLY to take the Largemouth out and replant them in lakes like Skinner and Elsinore where there is LEGAL fishing. That would be a shame. Rick G.
