Basstrix-The thruth behind the bait by Mike Gash

Post by idahobass »

Dear fellow anglers,

Before I spend a bit of time telling you the truth, I would like to know how much interest there really is in knowing it.I was there,I lived it and would love to share it.I will not, however, stand for any type of controversy or bad blood. I have left that life to move to Idaho where I don't have to wait in launch lines or pay outrageous entry fee's just to enjoy fishing. The story is interesting,I promise you that.Just let me know if you'd like to hear it and I'll tell you.

Dear Hollywood,

I definately don't wan't to write a book, but I do have over 20 bass over ten pounds including five over fifteen and Mike Long's Twenty pounder on video. Now, that's not something you see everyday.I have put it all on DvD,maybe I should offer that instead?I have only let my immediate family watch it,maybe I should offer that to everyone? What do you think?

Yes, it is fun to watch. One of my favorite scenes is Mike Long and myself with Bill Rice(Senior editor of WON News) holding over 40lbs of bass for five!Mike actually holds all of them at once with both hands. Imagine holding holding five bass at 40lbs on stage during a tournament.Wouldn't that be cool?

That day the only day that I had ever caught a bigger bass than him. We had four ten's and my 13.5. WON Bass did an article on it
at the time.I still think Mike loses sleep over it.He's that competitive.I still love him though.

If anyone wants a copy of the video let me know.I will look into how much reproduction will cost. I'm guessing that I will have to charge for shipping as well.I'm thinking that $10.00 bucks for the video and $5.00 bucks for shipping should be the norm.Anyone work for UPS?Maybe you can offer some insight.

I heard the mexican food is bad in Idaho.. Why did you stop the tourneys and leave CA. I mean you had the sponsorships, recognition, success. I heard Idaho is nice though and the people are pretty mellow..

Hey Mike,

Terry Battisti here. I was the writer that did the swimbait article with you and Long for In-Fisherman back in 2002. I'm here in Idaho too (have been for 14 years). If you'd like to hook up some time, let me know. My email address is battisti1@cableone.net. I'm heading to Boise next week for a conference and Brownlee is on.

Take care,

I'm thinking Mike would like to make a buck or two from this venture so putting it up in it's entirety on the net is bit premature. But a snipit or two to help promote sales would be a good thing and we'd love to accommodate that if Mike wishes.

Hey Mike,

My In-Laws moved up to Idaho (Priest River area) and absolutely love it. The wife and I are thinking of picking up some land up there for a retirement home.

Would love to hear your story.

P.S. I've been to Idaho and there is some great authentic mexican food there.

Good knowing where you are now Mike,

Doesn't seem like that long ago when you, Mike, John and Micki were here in the shop doing the seminar on swimbaits. Boy has the swimbait world evolved since than. I still have a video of the presentations you all gave that evening. An awesome night to be sure.

It was the first time I believe that Mike or John had spoke in public. Mac Weakley and Jed Dickerson were in the audience that evening and you all got those boys all fired up to go out and catch those big bass. Mac bought a G-Loomis rod here just shortly afterwards and I believe it was on that same rod the 25-1 came off of. He also caught that bass on one of the WP Rattlesnake jigs.

One just never knows the ripple effect that even our most slighest efforts make. You guys created a title wave for sure.

Fishing in your part of the world sounds good. Just keep your senator on the water and out of the restrooms!

Good fishing

I really would like to hear it. Seeing you are here Bruce, can you tell us what the issue is over there? I mean you are basically double dipping tubes, with a .01cent 3D eye and a little paint.

If its a business plan to increase demand, thats fine. I'd just like to know :D

Its too bad its gonna be copied so fast because of the lack of availability.....

let me clarify. I have no issue with Bruce.. im not even from this area and dont know your drama.
Next YOU will never be able to buy my baits because i DONT sell them. Nor WILL I.
Its nice to see Bruce and his true self, This is KEY to this thread because it help establish his credibility when Mike says his peice.

Note the attack, from an uninformed source. At least his attack on my supposed lack of "talent" Why the anger Bruce? So we can expect a brutal attack from bruce on mike when mike posts the truth. As Bruce is already on the defensive.

Pray tell and im with you on the lines. I can't wait to go back home. I cant understand waiting an hour to get your boat from the dock... Im used to people getting in and out like clockwork instead of taking 30 min to get a 21 foot wakeboat on their stinkin trailers.

Dear Pred,

Your an idiot!I was going share with these fine folks how an ordinary bass fisherman transformed into a big bass fisherman.I was going to share about a dream of myself wanting to catch the bass of my dreams and through the story developed relationships that have lasted a lifetime. One bait changed my fishing world. One bait made my dreams come true.Growing up all I wanted to do was catch a ten pound bass. Now I have 143 documented fish as large as 17.2. It's a great story.Sorry you'll never get to hear it. People
like yourself are the reason folks don't want to learn to fish.

I was wondering where you got off to. I thought you left because they outlawed waterdogs in Cali or you told the wrong person to "stay off my water" :)

Hi Ray. That was interesting. We will see how things progress in the future. They have a business to run and they are not on the state payrole so they have to do things a little different. I know that they are addressing many of the problems and want to work with the bass fishing comunity to make things better. At least they are listening. Where else have we got that? Anyhow.. you can call the office in the am. I will be in and out tomorrow. I know that the afternoon is pluged. Try between 10 and noon

Thank you, for showing your true colors. I've never heard that one before. The previous post about me using drugs and being too short was great too. It's a wonderful thing when the public can see what type of person they are spending thier hard earned dollars to support. You work for Mercury,I'm sure they are going to be really pleased with your actions. They already know.I emailed Mercury everything.Good luck and God Bless.I was only trying to share a positive story with the bass fishing public. It's no wonder why the top guys dont post here. They dont want to get attacked..
I wish I could be at your next sales meeting. To the general public,
I'm sorry for this imbarrasing message. There is few guys that are out there that want to ruin it for eveyone. If I can help you catch bigger fish, please Pm me.I will answer your request.Keep your heads up not everyone is bad in this industry.
